Do you know for a fact that your player can play backups??? I would look it up at dvrhelp.com. Let us know how you make out. :)

yes it can i got a friend to do a back up on his pc 4 me and that plays fine the only difference is his os is xp pro (dont know if there r different drivers in there or something)

The liteon dvd burners are picky on the media, so firmware updates are almost a must.
Which one to get though depends on the media (also if its dvd+r or - media) The easy way out(for me ;)) is to point you to Cdfreaks forum and the hardware\liteon section. Theres a lot of info on these drives vs media and firmware there (and only a few of us using them here)
One other thing you could try though is to get hold of kprobe and scan your dvds for pi\po values(errors), should give an indication on if a firmware upgrade is called for (if your media is supported already). Also have a look at smartburn(for media codes) and the booktype util(for forcing readability on older standalones) at liteons site
