hi
my drive died some time ago, new firmware has no effect.
so as a last resort, before it hits the bin, i would like to flash a new eeprom from a known working drive.
if anybody can supply one or point me in the right direction, i would be most gratefull
many thanks

The advice in all cases is - the EEPROM is YOUR drive's calibration, load a different one, and performance will be severly compromised.

Are you actually succeeding with a firmware flash - from what I read, sometimes a risky hotswap procedure is required.

If the DOS version of MKTFLASH, in port mode, doesn't succeed in getting the firmware into the drive, then booting with that drive powered but unconnected, and a spare drive powered and connected to the same port, and then taking the IDE from one and putting it on the other (the hotswap) can sometimes allow you to proceed.

How "dead" is it ? - if beyond the reach of normal software, it's probably beyond the reach of Windows based LTNFLASH as well.

Cleaning is another possibility, and If you can flash at all, I'd try backflashing an older firmware with the unofficial tools, and then apply the Official latest flash, as there is some suggestion that it may adjust the EEPROM in some way.
