Lite-On LTD 163 = Lite-On 16 Smart X ?

Want to buy a Lite-On LTD 163, but here in Thailand I can only locate one named "Lite-On LTD 16 / Smart X" on the retailer box.

The retrailers here claim that they do not know any drives from Lite-On named LTD 163.

Anybody knows if it's the same thing? Thanks.

Thanks Poko

- already on my way to the shop to grab it.

(Also fighting to locate the Lite-On LTR 24102B / 40125S here, but it is extremely difficult, since the retailers in fact knows very little about computers, and they do not write/speak/understand one word english. They don't care much, because all their customers knows even less, so they have easy living just selling what they got. Ask for any specific hardware, and they are complety lost).

Just some add information

Have learned following:

The retailer box (English) for both Lite-On LTD 163 - 163D and 165 are all the same, only telling that it contain a Lite-ON DVD 16 Smart X. You can't tell from the outside of the box which version is inside.

You simply have to open the box and read the sticker attached on the hardware inside. I got this information after contacting the official importer/dealer of Lite-On in Thailand.

And since then I have been having happy times running from one store to the other, demanding them to open all their boxes. Opening box no. 11 (in the 7'th shop I think), I finally found it, a nice LTD 165 = Region Free. Sometimes hard work does pay back.;)

Wow a 165!!!

The drive of dreams. :D

I've been asking my supplier for a while now if he can get hold of these and the answer has been no, anyone in the UK know of a good source where I can get hold of these drives on a regular basis?

In a word NO.Due to it being region free authorites here don't like it but u can make the 163 region free.

Important notice on making LTD 163D Region Free

Notice that you can NOT directly make the new version of Lite-On 163 (named LTD 163D on the security label) region free with r1211. You will have to flash new firmware first, and then run r1211 to make it work.

See all details at h**p://home.hetnet.nl/~garciagt/

This is also a site for newbies. Got tutorials, all needed files, links etc. etc.

Have fun in a Region Free world

:D
