Hi,
I'm new to all this and having problems. I have a liteon 832s burner and dvdfab which was a free download. I am having problems in that sometimes I copy a dvd and it will play fine, but more likely it skips and freezes towards the end of the movie. Firstly I was burning direct from one disc drive to another (is that 'on the fly'?) and had problems. So I then tried copying to hard drive and then to burner but I am still having problems. I am burning to EMTEC DVD-R's and am wondering if that is the problem. I only bought these cos they seemed cheap, but not at the rate i'm wasting them! Everyone seems to recommend the Ritec discs. Help!!
Thanks

Thanks for that. One thing I didn't mention is that I have got a few imation dvd+r's and have just burnt another and that is fine (3 out of 3 so far) so media must be the problem. Is is right that most people use dvd-r's? and if so why is that? Will dvd+r's play on dvd players?
Thanks again

dvd-r are more compatable with more DVD standalones but dvd+r work for loadsa peeps
me I use dvd-r but have done a few dvd+r

Cheap dvd+r tend to work better with Lite-on drives than cheap dvd-r.

Doesn't make much difference if you use + or - if you go with high quality (but not cheap) media though.

I have the same burner as you and used omnipatcher with the rec tweaks (write strategies) and latest firmware. As has been said before, Liteon favours +R very strongly. What I have found is that even if the -R ritek disks (or even other similar quality-R) seem ok at the beginning, they exhibit errors at the end. If you nrun them through kprobe you will see what I mean. Now the same disks burned in my trusty old Sony dru500 are fine. I test them in the 832s after they have been burned in the sony, and kprobe gives near perfect results. Conclusion - Liteon likes quality disks and preferably +R. So that is what i now use with the 832s - +r toyu yuden with autobitsetting applied in the patched firmware.

ok thanks for the replys so far, but no one has commented on dvdfab. Any one got any comments on this. Seems easy enough to use for a beginner.
