Lite On 48x12x48x

I just picked up a retail CenDyne 48x12x48x CD-RW ( couldn't pass it for $50), which is a rebagged Lite-On (LTR/48125W).
I am using NTI CD-Maker Professional V5.1.7 as my burning software on WinXP corp.
However NTI CD Maker does not recognize my Burner. When I burn audio, the software looks like it is burning, but nothing is burned on the disk.
I went to Lite On's web site, & flashed the firmware to the latest VSO6), but no change with NTI CD-Maker. NTI CD-Maker just doesn't recognize the Lite On CR-RW burner.
I then went to NTI's site, and added the file Cdrw.bdb ( "Update your CD-Maker Professional and Backup Now! for the latest drive support with the new Drive Support Database, Cdrw32.bdb.") NTI listed the drives supported by this database, listing both the CenDyne and Lite On drives equivalent to the one I have. Still no luck with burning.
Finally I went to FAQ's on NTI's site and found this:
Question:
I just install the upgrade to 5.1.17 (or higher) and now none of my drives are detected by your software, why?

Answer:
It may be do to the Adaptec writing plug-in with Media Player. We have found that the Media Player plug-in takes control of the ASPI layers that other programs install and disables them. This causes the program to not detect the CDRW drive. If you do have the Adaptec Plug-in you can correct the problem by uninstalling our software and the Plug-in. You can uninstall the plug-in by going to control panel, add/remove programs and double clicking on the Media Player entry. A list of media player components will appear. Select only the Adaptec CD Burning Plug-In and click ok. This will uninstall the plug-in. After uninstalling the plug-in reboot and then reinstall our software.
While Media Player is installed with WInXP, I cannot find the Adaptec Burning Plug In to delete.
Any ideas how to get me rolling with the new Burner?

Try removing the XP burning stuff I cant remember how (dont use XP) but its somewhere on the Forum

This puts it in manual mode:
Right click on the drive, choose properties, Recording tab, un-tick the "Enable CD Recording on the drive."

This disables is permanently:
Start > Administrative Tools > Services > IMAPI CD COM Burning service >disable

simular prob with plex 40/12/40a

Hello i don't know if this will help...

have you got a via chip set on your mobo???

i had a very simular problem in win98se with my plex 40/12/40a writer. I found that i was writing a disc all went well and burn process successful...but when i came to read the disc there was nothing on it.....i found that dis-abling DMA in the sytem propities for the plex drive cured this problem..i was told that is a conflict with via chip sets???????

if it works for you great if not sorry

flyby2001 out.......

or if you have a via chip set try oudating the bios/drivers to the newest versions.

Thanks all. I do not have a VIA chipset. But I did fix the problem. It was bad ASPI layer. Works great now.
Appreciate the thoughts.
