I agree with pokopiko, I upgraded to the 40x plextor and I do alot of cd burning. I really don't see any difference. I upgraded for the speed but then after I started using the drive I was using slower speeds for more accurate burns. Not that it was a waste but it only seems to come in handy when I do cd to cd on the fly burns. I also have a 16x plextor, so most times I do a multi-drive burn and I can't go any faster than 16x anyway. Personally if I had a chance to do it over again with what I know now, I would have just bought another 16x Plex. Keep your 24x, your not missing anything.

The Lite-On 24X will copy Safedisc 2.51 and higher copy-protected game CDs while the Plextor 40X will not. On the other hand, the Plextor will read some copy-protected audio CDs that the Lite-On will not.

I'm not sure if the ability to read copy protected audio CDs can be improved with firmware upgrades, but the ability to make exact duplicates of Safedisc 2.51 and above CDs cannot. It's dependent on the CD-RW chipset.

CloneCDs "amplify weak sectors" feature will allow you to make a workiing copy of Safedisc 2.51, but it won't be an exact backup, and there's no assurance than it will for future versions of Safedisc. However that may be the case for any CD-RW...

Recommendation:
Protected Audio CDs: Choose Plextor
Protected Game CDs: Choose Lite-On

thanks all

Thankyou for your help my first thought was 40speed writer wow sounds good but like poko said is it worth the 20-30sec faster burn..the therory "why fix it if it an't broke" comes to mind.

I am going to keep my lite-on 24speed...

i also have a pioneer 104 dvd can this do audio protections??

cheers once again

Lite-ON kicks ass, Plextor is a very volnurable burner. Never liked or had any sympathy towards it.
