Linux/FTP problem

Hi,
A friend of mine posted the following question in another forum, but did not get any response.

He uses the comp @ a university and has the following question

Hi everybody. I have a problem with the ftp programs. I am working on Linux and I am behind a firewall. I tried to connect to a couple of ftp's, but I could not see the folders. There was something about the passive transfer. I set the ftp program not to use a passive transfer and I still could not connect. Does anybody have any idea.

Maybe there are some linux users here that have some advice for him?

probably have to do with firewall at university and it security settings.......you friend prob need to use tunnel software to overcome this. I not sure just something that come to mind when I read your problem. I have had this prob but on windows box. Maybe linux person step up and say different, but I think tunnel software may help. U might look here-------------->http://www.nocrew.org/software/httptunnel.html

good luck

Thanks peeps

for now I know he uses gftp is a gnome based ftp program. He also tried bulletproof through wine, but that did not work.

(I hope you guys know what he means, I certianly don't. I don't know anything about linux)

Yesterday he tried to connect again to my server. This time suddenly he could see the folders but not the files that were in there nor was he able to download.

I am using Bulletproof ftp v2.15 and the his account has
Read- Make- List- and Subdirs checked...................

Thankz. I hope that will do the trick.

Will he be able to download too, 'cause that was/is also a problem.

He won't be able to login on my ftp untill next tuesday though.

I'll let you know the results
