LDW-411S - Can only achieve 1x Max!???

I seem to be having a problem with my DVD burner that I only just purchased.

No matter which program I use (Nero v6, Easy CD Creator v6) I can't choose a burn speed higher than 1x. I know it should be able to do x4 but for some reason there is no option to choose a higher speed. I'm using certified 4x DVD-R media which should be ok (Mirror Platinum 4.7Gb)

Also, the Sonic MyDVD software that came with the burner will only write at 1x too - I'd have thought bundled software would work??

Any ideas or help is much appreciated!!

Could you post a few of the technical details such as make/mode/firmware version of the burner, as well as which OS you are using, and the version nums of each of the programs?

Yep, here are the details:

Lite-on LDW-411S Internal
FS02 Firmware
Windows XP
Nero 6.0.0.16
Easy CD Creator 6.0.0.171
Sonic RecordNow DX, Version 4.60

Could it be my media causing the problem? They're 'Mirror Platinum'

Could be the media I personally only use Media with Ritek dye.I've found they (for me) are the best.

Frosted top G04 (DV 341/50) at £46.99 for 50

Or orange (Overprint) G04 at £23.50 for 25

Some say that since the Liteon started out as a +R drive and was then upgraded to +/-, that it may be better with +R media, like the NEC one.

Anyone who started out with -R drives, probably produces drives with better -R handling - The Pioneer certainly rates as compatible with a bigger variety of media.

Or check out your local computer fair.

@drift3r I`ve just bought the same model (Liteon LDW-411S) myself,from SVP .They always test the burners they sell with every media they can beforehand ,and they also recommend Ritek..So for me its Ritek,Ritek,Ritek....

If you have INCD installed, uninstall it.

Just 1X burning= quite likely that your burner is operating in PIO mode only instead of UDMA 2.
You can check that under control panel/system/hardware/device manager. Expand there the IDE/ATAPI controllers icon, pick the primary/secondary controller icons--properties, and see if the channel corresponding to your burner is set as "DMA if available" or just as PIO. The current transfer mode should be set as Ultra DMA mode 2.
