Here is just a simple roundup of the current standings on the latest populair copy protections, as there are SafeDisc and SecuROM. Both have been recently introduced and have succeeded to prevent a lot of people to make backups.

But lately there have been several breaktroughs that make it possible to make backups of titles protected with these copy protections. Here are your possibilites:

SecuROM and SafeDisc protected titles can be backed up with Alcohol 120% - emulation for SecuROM is still needed.

SafeDisc 2.8x can also be copied with a combination of freeware applications. (DiscDump and BurnatOnce)

VSO Software has released a new version of Blindwrite that should also be able to make backups of the latest SecuROM protected games.

DEAMON Tools has released more media description files (.mds) to use backups in emulation devices.

There is a tool available that will give you the version number of SafeDisc and SecuROM protected titles.

The BlindWrite suite comes with software that shows the difference between a SecuROM protected game and a normal CD in a graph.
