Hi all,

I have a problem at the moment with my laptop spec as above
the problem is the dvd burner has stopped working. but when i say stop working i mean

In My Computer it's not showing i have one but when in Device Mang it's showing as a QSI-DVDRW-SDW-0-41 whitch i think is correct.
when putting any disk in (music/data/movie) the lights on the drive but it does not read the disk?

Also in My Computer the Smart Media icon thinks it is the dvdrom drive. E.G If i right click on the smart media icon and click on Eject it Ejects the dvdrom?

Any help would be mucho gracius as i have tried new drivers and aslo updated firmwire for dvd drive.,

Cheers

first: have again a look in Windows' device manager and verify that there is no yellow error mark at your IDE controller and at the drive itself;
then open Windows' "Drive Management" and go sure a drive letter is assigned to your DVDRW;

Didn't you said above the drive is not showed in My Computer? :confused:
it's fully normal that DVDRW drives are listed as DVDROM; only your burning software will recognize it as burner;

i have tried new drivers
What drivers?

also please report us, which burning software you currently use and which other ones you have/had installed;
And what did you install/change since it worked before? :)

This isn't another "it worked ok before SP2", is it?

Been seeing a few across other forums, and QSI certainly rings a bell.

Examining the system with Everest Home - freeware from Lavalys.com may prove useful, particularly to assist in identifying.

If you have Nero with it, take a log of an image recorder burn, remember to remove your key, and post that up - Nero normally logs drivers that are involved or may conflict.
