LAME 4.0 - 5 times faster?

3.93 and 3.94 had certain and (even worse) AUDIBLE problems in comparison to Kutsanov's 3.92 or the "audiophile" Dibrom 3.90.2 compile (although the latter had certain problems with correct tags registration, in some systems- in general Kutsanov's 3.92 seems the best Lame up to date). I will certainly give it a try, but I don't cross my fingers.

great info from lore - as always ! thanks m8. btw - while i was away for a few months, you took yr post tally to 1200+ ! that's great job !

Gave it a try. Damn fast, but I could not find a single --alt-preset setting that is usable, all the ones I tried did not work properly. I also had a couple of lockups (using ABR).
And besides that Takehiro Tominaga (the branch developer) shouts all the time @ Hydrogen Audio:
LAME4 IS COMPLETELY PRE ALPHA STAGE

Yep it is, so guys use this one just for testing.. :)

I tried to encode just one file to see the speed improvements, really impressive, used --alt-preset standard and extreme and noticed some imperfections in standard..

2 questions scarecrow:
Where can I get Kutsanov's Lame (never heard of it till now)?
Also, does it use alt-presets like Dibrom's?
