Hi All,
Hoping someone can give me a quick run down on kprobe, what it actually does and how do you check if your burner has burnt properly. I have got kprobe downloaded and have clicked a few buttons but have absolutely no idea what i am really doing or what the graphs mean at the end.
Thanks

There is tons of that material @cdfreaks-here it wasnt mentioned much afaik :)

For how to use kprobe, see the first post here.

For how to interpret results, see the first post here.

Of course, you should remember that kprobe tests are only a guide. The only real tests that matter are-

1. Is all the data burnt readable?

2. Does the burnt dvd play properly in your stand-alone?

3. Will the burnt dvd last or will it deteriorate rapidly so that it becomes unusable in a relatively short time?

Crap media may produce near perfect kprobe results when burnt but be unusable 6 months later whilst quality media may produce kprobe results that look awful but, if the burnt disc reads and plays ok now anyway, the odds are that it will continue to read and play ok in 20 years time if properly handled and stored when not in use.

True, you can have a good kprobe result (tested at 4x for accuracy), but a disc that is unplayable, or suffers constant slowdowns and a really messy transfer rate plot.

Unless you're trying to comply with Cdfreaks reporting standard (Kprobe at 4x), then Nero CDSpeed (does DVD too!) may be easier to use and follow, I believe it also colourkeys the graph background now as a guide...

Cdspeed also supports more drives than Kprobe

Yup. Kprobe only works with Lite-on drives whilst Cdspeed works on nearly everything.

Cdspeed also gives a quality assessment out of 100 which makes it easier for beginners to interpret results too. :) (Of course, the quality assessment isn't always accurate  but it is a useful guide.)
