Kodak EasyShare CX6330 - Software Installation Problems

After some advice :)

I have just purchased a CX6330 Kodak digital camera.

I got a CD that contained the EasyShare v3.0x software. I installed this to my Win XP machine. I then connected my camera via USB to the machine.

The machine does not want to recognise the camera.

I then un-installed EasyShare v3.0x software, and d/l from www.kodak.com the v3.2x software. I installed this to my machine, restarted etc. and the machine still does not recognise the camera.

I have had a browse on the Kodak site, which to be honest is not much help.

All I want to do is to be able to connect my camera to my PC and transfer my stored pictures to it. I will then use other software such as Photoshop v8.0 or Fireworks MX

Has anybody got any ideas/suggestions as to where I am going wrong ?

I don't know why your machine doesn't recognize the Kodak. You might try a couple of things:

1) If you have ACDSee 6.0, see if it recognizes your camera when you plug it in.

2) What type of memory card does the Kodak take? I would personally advise you to buy a card reader. It will transfer far faster than the camera does, and it relieves your camera of any wear & tear. This is how I do all of my dumps and it works great!

You may need to select a CUSTOM install of the Download, in order to install the camera connection component - possibly also true for the CD.

Is this DIRECT USB, not the base?
On the Base, the transfer mode is powered up when you press the button.
With direct USB, you must power the camer on once connected - it's not an automatic USB powered setup ... this is perhaps the best reason to go for EITHER a card reader, or the Easyshare base, as it is lamentable that Kodak do not provide any other way of external power connection!

Found a review....

Uses SD/MMC (like my DX3700) - Older Kodak models, and some inbetween, favoured CF cards.

One other thing, try plugging a USB mouse or something in, just to make sure the port is good - and if possible, use a direct port rather than a hub (although I've been able to use a hub without problem)
