Agreed... Kerio had a once great product in version 2.14 & 15. Even version 3 was good for me until it expired Novermber 1st.

I use Kerio ver 2.15 with the rules found here (hint: look in Updates and News ;) ) you'll need to tweak these settings though. Extreemly stable on Win2k and XP. Just wish this version had a sandbox though.

Hang on to this version (2.15) though. Kerio website has removed it and is asking websites to remove the old file. Kerio has also all but destroyed the Kerio Users Group at Yahoo (a once great site) even though they do not own nor did they start it.

Yep i got the old version saved, i was watchin the posts at dslreports.com where Kerio posted the newer versions, just a pity they didnt read all the negative things said about ver 4, there were lots of them:confused:

It just bothers me when companies turn a great light resource friendly prog into a piece of bloat :(

PS a warning to those still running win9x, the beta 3 & ver 4 of Kerio is not suited to that OS, it maily for use on 2000/XP despite what Kerio say

Yes a keen kerio fan that I am one of the old builds gave mi nothing but problems.. Somewhere between v4..5 to 6 after upgrade each time I started my pc an error came up..someting to the effect of fwdrv.vxd could not be found IP.adress..182.xxxxxxxx etc etc etc this would bring the PC into a loop mode and the only way out was to hit Enter untill this warning went away. At one stage I was thinking it was my router acting up, but kerio seemed to be working ok even with this error at start up. Anyways the long and short of it I hunted for this file and could not find it no matter what. In the end I managed to trace it with the help of this guide below...

What files/registry keys get installed/how to do a clean uninstall
Tiny and Kerio use InstallShield6 programs for installation and uninstallation. The downloaded file contains three OS Groups: Win9x, Win2K, WinNT. The files installed are identical for all OS, except that a VXD file is used for 9x, and the same SYS file for 2K and NT.

*** Files installed

KPF.chm \..\home folder (Kerio only)
persfw.exe \..\home folder
pfwadmin.exe \..\home folder
fwdrv.vxd \windows\system (9x) ;fwdrv.sys (2K, NT)
Start Menu Links to these files are also added, and log, key & conf files are created in the home folder during execution. Only four registry keys and one value are added:

*** KPF
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Kerio]
[HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Kerio] ;added after reboot
*** TPF
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TinySoftware]
[HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\TinySoftware] ;added after reboot
*** Both
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\persfw.exe]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\fwdrv]
...[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices]
"PersFw"="......."
To unstall manually:

Shut down the firewall, making sure the PERSFW.EXE process is closed. This process doesn't appear in the Ctrl-Alt-Del listing and you may require a program similar to System Internals Process Explorer to do this if you encounter difficulties deleting files.
Delete the four files listed above. Other files in the home folder may also be deleted to reestablish defaults - but backing up the conf files would be prudent if you wish to restore current settings.
Delete the four registry keys and one value listed above.
Reboot to clear memory of the VXD file which is still running.
The installation also installs 2MB of InstallShield files and adds several hundred lines to the registry in 96 independent keys for their use. The files are in the folders:
Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield
Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{ED5AF20A-7155-......} (TPF)
Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{51C8741C-4A91-......} (KPF)
To complete the firewall uninstallation, the GUID {...} should be checked in the registry Uninstall key and this key and its corresponding information folder deleted, e.g.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{51C8741C-4A91-......}]
Unfortunately, InstallShield considers itself to be a permanent component of the OS and provides no means for its own removal. If there are additional subfolders of the 'InstallShield Installation Information' folder, InstallShield has been used to install other programs and is required for their uninstall routines. Attempting its removal would be unwise. Otherwise, its files can be deleted and you can spend a couple days purging the registry of its residuals - if you're not in the habit of logging registry changes due to installations.

I've no information as to whether a corrupted InstallShield installation can interfere with a subsequent firewall reinstallation when the former firewall has been correctly removed.
