The programmers hail from Estonia, and were hired by a company in the Netherlands. That company has since sold the software to Sharman Networks, based in the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu, whose executives work in Australia. Lawyers therefore are forced to negotiate already vague intellectual property laws from five countries on three continents.
