.... I have made many back ups (DvD's) with great success - now all of the sudden they will not play-- always used TDK- worked perfecftly-Will a media you haved used all along suddenly stop working ? Please advise !

Well have you installed anything new?
I would check who make the media. Try a program like DVD Identifier and tell us who makes it. It could be as simple as bad media. Other than that we will need more info but I'd say thats a good start.

Even if the same name is on the media, it might not be the same, unless you're talking about being halfway through a pack.

Do they not play on anything? Unless the burn is VERY bad, they should play back on the PC, even if a standalone DVD Player doesn't like them.

What hardware?

I can think of three things that might be causing your problem. Media material which someone already mentioned. I had problems, but when I switched to Ritek disc the problem stopped. Another problem is your burner might need cleaning and the third which I suspect is the problem if your disc are not playing is a setting is off. Also check your connections.
