ok peeps above named drive is of course a liteon 163..my problem is I cannot extract a dvd image when using alcohol..
I can extract a cd image and also can extract a dvd image in instant and other progs I can also play a dvd with this drive but just cant get that dvd image any ideas before I take back to shop...

as far as i know u cannot just extract a dvd image from a protected dvd.
U need to rip it with decryptor or other ripper on the fly to an iso.
I dont use alcohol (the prog) so i dont know if it can do this.

jlms xj-hd 165h is a LiteOn LTD-165H....if your is a LTD-163 then someone sold you something its not....there are different Filmwares for these two models

Yep, and IIRC the 165 is a region free drive too.

sorry davemel did not clarify what I meant was it will not make Iso image from one that is alredy done but will make iso image from a cd...
