HI

My JLMS DVD ROM LTD-165H does'nt see any discs and asks me to place disc in drive when there is one already in.

I have gone into device manager and it says the device is working properly,so I followed the troubleshoot path tried update driver (nonefound),Roll back driver (none found) and finally uninstall driver, rebooted theP/C let it reinstall driver but still have the same problem does this mean tht my DVD ROM is defunct? :(

@ meldrew,

There are no drivers required for a DVD-ROM drive.

I suggest visiting the CodeGuys firmware page located at http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html and install the latest firmware for your LTD-165H DVD-ROM drive.

Best Regards,

Thanks for the suggestion Coaster as you can probably tell from my first post I am a relative newbie to computing and as they say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and I am always afraid of getting it wrong.I always think getting it right in computing is one click away but its knowing where to click.

So a couple or three questions, the site you gave has two sets of firmware slow or fast wich would you advice and is there a sticky or site that would tell me about checking and installing the firmware.

@ meldrew,

I would suggest downloading both the fast and the quiet firmware files. I would try the fast firmware files and see if it works OK for your application. If you find the fast firmware makes your 165 DVD-ROM too noisy you can slow it down by installing the quiet firmware files.

The firmware files contain a “readme.txt” file that provide information on installation of the firmware.

If you would like to obtain some amplifying information concerning your LTD-165H DVD-ROM drive firmware suggest visiting CDFreaks Lite-On Forum located at http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=44 and do search there for your DVD-ROM drive.

I am not “guaranteeing” that installing the latest firmware for your LTD-165H DVD-ROM will correct your problem but it is an excellent starting place. Your problem could be something as simple as a dirty disk or possibly your 165H DVD-ROM laser lenses is dirty and needs cleaning.

THis is a rather old Lite-On DVD-ROM drive, which AFAIK has trouble reading burned DVD+R media. Is this your case?
Of course any old drive can go tits up anytime it pleases...

I would suggest a new one. :) When you can get a newer DVD-rom £20.15. Considering your in the UK :) or you can look around the forum for other retailers in the UK with Lite-on if you want one. Good luck.

Hi
Thanks to you all for your comments and suggestions which I have taken on board.

The annoying thing is that I have only had the P/C for three years and have hardly used the drive, I installed a PIONEER DVD RW DVR 106D at the beggining of last year and have mainly used that.

Ah well if I can't get this one working it looks like another upgrade possibly dual layer.

I have another problem but I will start another thread on that one,Thanks again.
