You will see a drive for $77. Click on it and it will say 'Ikebana' .... I was wondering if this is a Lite - On and will do SD 2.51

Someone just told me that the drive says LG and the manual as well

How is this drive for read and write of SD 2.51 and other things as well

Go here to see a review of the drive. h**p://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=95

The GCE 16X model does Safedisc2 fine.I can't guarantee this one will.

Woody,

I couldnt find any LG drive listed on any list floating around that it can do SD 2.51

Anyone know if this burner can do it

What about a CenDyne 16x10x40, what is that a re packaged of ..................

Does this burn SD 2.5x

Hi bud.I just wanted to say this...Instead of taking a chance, why don't you find the real thing.Take the guesswork out of it,and make sure you get a Liteon.Sometimes the rebadgers change brands or change the id.string in the bios. Then you have to wait for long periods of time to get firmware updates.Everybody seems to be able to find the Liteon 24102B.It definitely does the trick.:)

Oh,and yes,I do remember you from Cdrforum.;)

You are right about just getting a Lite - On but I couldnt find them until I checked Newegg

They were not listed their so by chance I clicked on Black cdrw's and I saw it then

Is this the correct one ...... LITE-ON LTR-24102B-02 24x10x40 CDRW BLACK - OEM

How does this drive do on mp3 to cdda

Yep, that is the correct writer model#.It will do audio fine, but it can't rip protected audio cd's such as Cactus data shield. It's one of the best right now.:)

Oh,sorry but no direct links unless they are forum links.I fixed your link.;)

I picked one up

What settings do I need with it ... because I know with my Plextor 1210a 1.4 firmaware I need to check 'AWS'

Should I use it as a reader as well because I know my toshiba 6602b reads SD 2.51 pretty fast

What is cactus shield music

Hi bud, your Toshiba will be fine as a reader.Just use fast error skip for SD2.You don't need AWS with the Liteon. It makes perfect SD2 backups.

Cactus Data Shield is an audio protection, that stops you from making backups of Commercial cd's.The Plextors are among the best to defeat this protection.;)

The first thing I did with the drive after installing it was to check Sync Data Transfer and DMA in WIN 98 SE and then reboored. I then poped the first music cd to check the ripping speeds with EAC. The 7 minute song rippied at 3.6 x speed ... isnt that awfully slow for this drive

I know DMA is checked and the bios is reading it as a DMA 4 device

How can I better benchmark it to see if its ok

Thanks

Take a look at this link bud.Fix it and Copy and paste into your browser. You need to to test with a full cd also,as the drive will build up speed.Sync data transfer should be disabled.

I just used CD Speed .85 and this is what I got:

Average: 17.46
Start 9.34
End 18.31
Type Z - CLV

This was with a retail copy of a Thelonius Monk Jazz CD

Just to be clear, are you saying that with the Liteon drive I should NOT check Sync Data Transfer and only have DMA checked

Ok, I I think I have a problem and I know with you knowledge you can help. The only thing I have checked now is Disconnect and DMA

I went to run CDspeed .85 and this is what I got. I used a copy of Win 98 se on a cdr

Start 18.61
Current 21.83

I t went to the end of the 71 minute dc and said Read error at 69:54:25 [code 031100}
Test aborted

Here is the output in txt format

Do you have any advice

There is deffinately something wrong with the drive or the settings

I just tried to run cdspeed .85 on Serious Same SE on a cdr. It is a 74 minute data cd

The test starts

16:25:50 starting transfer rate test
16:25:57 read eror at 00:09:50 code 031100
16:25:57 test aborted

I can hear spinning and stopping three times

What is that error code

This is on a MSI BxMaster
P 3 1 GHZ

Liteon is at Primary master
Toshiba is secondary Master

I think that The error is simply that the cd is scratched because I get that error in my Toshiba as well

But .... still I cant get over 22 read sped. With my Toshiba I can read faster than the Liteon by 00.20 ... not much but I was expecting those graphs showing a steady up in read spead

Firmware upgrades can help with some issues.Scratched discs are always better read slower.I encountered one my self today with my Plex.I had it set to abort on read error,it did.Slowing the read down worked, it went past the scratched area..

Check your firmware version, maybe somebody can advise you on that.;)

The firmware you have is a good version. There is a newer version posted somewhere in the forum.Use the search function of the board and you should be able to find it posted.
