Is Kerio Personal Firewall dead?

Is it dead?

There's no updates on it for a long time, this means that I'll have to go back to ZoneAlarm again?

Damn... :(

SpitFire the beta builds are very stable and do there job.You should not have any problems with this one. If you do tend to use this version 3.6 beta or any of the betas unistall your old 2 series kerio B4 install version 3.
Go back to Zone alarm I don't think so bro....:D

It's been a long time since I didn't post here... since the times of the warez trouble...

Anyway, is there going to be more updates on the beta of kerio? And are you using it rasta?

Because ZA is updating almost every month, and I like to have a firewall up to date...

A Kerio spokesman made a post on the Kerio Yahoo Groups, that KPF 3 beta 6 will not be developed that much more. Kerio is quite happy with it and sees no need to continue its development.

Kerio has some good new ideas for KPF, but would rather develop it with the new KPF 4 code..... which is in development now. No date has been announced.

KPF 3 beta 6 is damned good IMHO. Even in Simple configuration it is great. But changing some of the Rules sets in Advanced configuration, gives more security.

Check out these links.....

Personally, I would rather have a Firewall (or any proggie) that is stable and does not need monthly bug fixes and updates.

I use Outpost...

In the free version, there are certain limitations - cannot set global rules other than the options already provided. It also has a few bugs and is overdue for the version 2 release.

Main modes:
Disabled (no blocking)
Allow most (allow all trafffic with no block rule set)
Rules Wizard (ask if neither block nor allow rule set)
Block Most (Block anything not already set to allow)
Stop All

Uses detailed application rules, no "easy" mode but presets are provided for many.
Also has ad-blocking, content blocking (no presets), and other content control - though the popup blocker is neither as effective, nor as convenient as one of the "window killers".

In the basic firewalling, Kerio seems to have slightly more (comparing free/free), but does version 3 add any of the extra non-firewall features.

Well I liked version 3, and since I don't wanna go back to za I'll stick with it, just need to learn a little more about how to make it more secure...

Thanks for the help... ;)

One more thing, I was checking the above links, and there's a set of rules that I could use in kerio, but all the options are different on the page, should I use that rules with kerio 3?

Yes I'm using it and would not do without it but thats just mi each to there own..
One word just because Joe Public has updates every other day or month does not deem it a good support or a good program all I can say is give Kerio a shot you can't go wrong with this...

:D

@Markbot you should find it under the download dropdown menu at the top of their pageProduct

@Rastabat
Everytime I reboot my machine after updating to 3.0 b6, I get the following error message:

"persfw.exe unable to read version of FWDRV driver 32"

Have you seen this before?

Never had any problems with Kerio bro or seen that error with Kerio.
1. did your have a Firewall installed and running B4 and did you disable/or unistall it B4 install this version?

2.did you use the full up setup update file or the update to 3.5?

I used the full update by the way.
You may want to unistall and remove all trace of Kerio reboot and reinstall this is by far their best to date Markbot....
Good luck bro.

You might want to make sure you have COMPLETELY removed any previous installs.

Remove the pgm folders
Remove an .ini entries
Remove all registry entries

I noticed that when I went back to 2.14 from 3b6, there were entries left in the registry.

Would recommend signing up to the yahoo group like I have as you can get all kinds of really good info / advice.

There are some really good rulesets out there which people are prepared to share.

For those who aren't aware, the main new feature of the v3 or v4 products are that they are not only application firewalls, but also SPI which makes them more resistant to DoS attacks etc etc.

Hope this info helps
