Hi

I have a question i update windows regular and most of them are critical.

I have publishid a screenshot and highlighted the files which my question is
regarding.. Every time I update it creates these log files...

What I want to know is are these needed, are they safe to delete.. Also if you can see anyother files that are not needed please post :D :D :D

I delete them and the installer folders in windows\winnt. As soon as i have checked that they dont cause troubles(you never know with ms).
:)

Fex these. Mind you, not all will concur on deleting these its just what i do(when i know for sure i dont need to uninstall them)

Yes! look closely at the numbers.
fex $NtUninstallKB829558$ corresponds to the KB829558.log
Forgot to say, i these are hidden by default. You need to turn on show hidden\system files.

I thought these files are requied for windows xp to check when you do windows update.. Its the only way windows update knows what you have installed..

Also once I remove them would it effect the system operating system...

Might be on xp but not win2k, just checked. It will affect your ability to uninstall the patches not much else.
Anyway i dont use windows update, i download and install manually the patches i want.
Why not just move them to a temp folder instead of deleting them, and let them stay that way for a while and see if it affects something.

Oh and you could also do a system backup beforehand

Storing files larger than 4G is NOT poss under Win9X/XP, but since the initial poster has not replied back I guess that he had his problem solved-or forgotten...

Even each manually install creates these files.
These files aren´t created if you choose the option "/n" when you install the Hotfix.

If you simple delete these files, you lost all updates references in the registry.

There are a little tool called "Remove Hotfix Backup" that can remove safely these files without lost the references updates. Works in both Windows 2000 and Xp.
