Is it possible...

Is it possible to share a dial-up connection in win98se so that users connected to local internet can browse the internet using that connection?
I know that in xp it's possible.

think may be possible but will require some configuration ...not well at ease with this ...anyone can confirm? ;)

W98SE does have this option, but it's not installed by default;
it's called ICS = Internet Connection Sharing;

YES i use 98se on 2 systems here !! :)

That is how i shared the internet over my LAN using NIC card to NIC card and 10/100 crossover cable then using internet connection sharing :)

I now have changed over to ADSL and its still shared with internet connection sharing and using 98se :)

only its a million times faster lol ..... well not quite :)

my only comment would be to use the machine with the FASTEST processor and MOST memory to be the server that connects to the internet as this takes the most strain of the connection :)

you will get whatever speed you get for one machine split almost in two :)

not bad for 2 systems just surfing the net but if both systems are downloading it will slow to a crawl :(

example if you get around 6k on a download if you have a decent line quality with one machine then with 2 each will get 3k depending on workload :)

my other tip would be if you want faster surfing use OPERA browser its freeware and you can turn IMAGES on and off with a click and with no images the page loads faster :)

I still use opera with my ASDL and still turn images off for a burst of speed now and then espesh when a website has loads of nonsense advertisements on or flashing adverts that get in the way or annoying :)

Anyhow im talking too much lol the simple answer is YES you can :)

Btw internet connection sharing is one of the windows components and needs to be ticked in the add remove programs /windows section to enable it :)
