Hello HS

welcome to the forum.

If you like to play the copy of your DVD as a SVCD/VCD
with your standalone dvdplayer then this tool is easy to use :

h**p://www2.labdv.com/dvdx/

you only needs this and Nero.

It is not the fastes but as i said before it is easy to use.

If you like the real professional way then have a look to chickenmans tutorials .

regards

thank *yu Master

i see...okay chickenman tutorial list;
How to backup your DVD's to DivX simply.
How to convert DVD to VCD with or without Sub-Titles
How to Convert DivX, AVI, ASF and MPG to VCD
How to backup your DVD's to (S)VCD

i guess How to backup your DVD's to DivX simply. is what i am looking for is it? just to make sure if this is what i am looking for...to backup DVD to CDR.
i am new to the forum and DVD copies. i though DVD could not be copied as how we copied PlayStation games.

If you are backing up dvd films to cdr or cdrw then either these options.DVD to (S)VCD or convert DVD to VCD with or without Sub-Titles

You have a few options available. Movie DVD's can be backedup to different formats.

Conversion to DivX will give you great quality and the movie generally fits onto 1 CD. However, a DivX can ONLY be played on a PC (or MAC) and NOT on any standalone DVD Player.

SVCD is the next best quality and these can be played on both PC and many DVD Players. A movie generally fits onto 3 CD's

VCD is the lower quality of these but is equal or better than VHS Tape in quality. Its a lot simpler to convert to this format than SVCD and most movies fit to 2 CD's

wow! thank you for explaining the meaning of those topics. Now that i knoe more about it. THANKS ChickenMAN!!!
for last but not least...i just want to know as a copied DVD does it still have the sound effect as a real DVD disc have? you know what i mean, the surounding sound.
note: i have not yet copied DVD becuz i haven't found a movie that i like best to be make backup yet. and please excuse my english| it is my third language after all...

I think there is no problem with your english...it´s still better than mine ;)

I am not sure cause Chickenman is the man for this but i hope that i am right.

It is impossible to copy Dolby Digital or DTS (5/1) to a normal cdr with this rippers. The best you can get is a downmix to Dolby Surround.

If i am wrong then correct me ...please ;)

If you follow the Tutorials, both the DVD2AVI/TEMGenc and the the Flask/Pana method both have Dolby downmix turned on and can give some quite good surround sound effect.

I would suggest you have a look at Star Wars - Phantom Menace DVD and in particular the Pod race section (just before mid-point of the movie) , the sound is quite spectacular (and so is the video) in this 12m clip.
