is it possible to make Dolby Digital SVCD's???

I recently got some Dolby Digital, DTS and THX trailers, probably about 40 of them (you know the ones...) and I want to burn them onto a normal cd-r(w). I have the vob files at the moment, and I tried to make a miniDVD (DVD vob files on a normal cd-r) but my Conia M271 wouldn't read it. I want to convert the vobs to SVCD, and I don't care too much about the video quality (although I want it as good as possible), but what I really want is the ac3 sound. Is it possible to convert the 35 sec vob trailers in this way??? On the same topic, can one burn .ac3 files on a CD-R to play in a DVD player as music only.

Later.

Tolchnik.

using dvd2svcd (check Chickenmans tutorials) the dolby soundtrack can be preserved.
In fact the picture and video quality is awesome! :D

As you found, not many DVD players will play miniDVD's. Mine wont either without a Firmware upgrade. Maybe your Conia can be upgraded also, worth checking.

SVCD's cannot have a true AC3 sound track in it. SVCD uses MPEG1 Audio Layer 2 or better know as an MP2. Using DVD2SVCD to make a SVCD, it takes the AC3 sound and using BeSweet it will down mix the 5 channels to a 2 channel but retaining the surround sound. You need to select an audio bitrate of 224 or better to get absolute superb sound. There is also a BeSweet setting that can be selected to create DTS2 surround sound in a true 2 channel sound file that will mux well into a SVCD.

A DVD player will not play AC3 sound files on a CDR, must be stereo wav files burnt to a CD.

What about DTS CD's

I have a CD at home burnt onto a standard CD-R that has music encoded in DTS 5.1. I can play the CD in my Conia, and the amplifier switches to DTS mode, and the sound is surround. If I try to play the CD in a normal player, it's just white noise.

Can't the same thing be done for a Dolby Digital soundtrack, or am I completely missing something? I'm very interested to know how the DTS track is actually encoded onto the CD.

I think that last question would be better suited for the Audio forum wher they can tell you the ins and outs of DD and DTS, etc.

Although stereo the sound will get great pro-logic output from a dolby decoder.
U just lose the stereo through the rear speakers but thats not a big price to pay.

If my ears are not misleading me, you get stereo output even from rear speakers, if your decoder supports Dolby PLII or NEO6 systems. I have the Denon 2800, and I hear trailers sounds (THX) from different angels from rear speakers.
I'm not sure, but isn't this the main difference between PL and PLII?
ps. using NEO6 I get a superb seperation, even better than Dolby.

oh? where? how?
usable with D2S also? does this mean you can pick the DTS track instead of the ac3?

...and why do it actually? is it better in any way from the ac3?
