Irql_not_less_or_equal >>>>> Heeelp Please!

I am having this message everytime i try to restart or shutdown my PC!!!!
Please could anyone tell me what is the problem??
Please??

Quickly please?!

WindowsXP Professional build 2600, PIV 1,7GhZ, 384MbRAM 133,
Intel i845 Chipset onBoard, GF2MX32, AudioPCI CLabs, 2xIBM HDD, CDROM, CDRW (On secondary)! What's the problem, please?

this error may have many reasons. I got it, because audiograbber has problems with my aspi drivers. others get it due to ram modules problems. it is pretty difficult to find out, what causes it, primarily because Microsoft's error messages are so cryptic

Sadly there is no "quick" or easy answer to this bud!

The IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or Stop 0x0000000A errors are basically a memory problem and are not always easy to diagnose. The message indicates that a kernel mode process or driver attempted to access a memory address that it did not have access to. They are generated by buggy device drivers, system services, memory problems, or computer BIOS.

Some things to consider....

Does it ever happen other than shutdown/restart?

Is all your memory the same exact module? Are you populating all your memory slots?

Updated your BIOS lately?

What are your memory timings in your system BIOS?

Any new proggies that run in the backround (Antivirus, Firewall, CDR)?

I've the same message during a windows XP fresh installation.

The only way to finish the whole install was decrease the FSB from 133 to 100 Mhz and increase the memory timings to safe mode.
My system is an Athlon XP 1600 - 256 Mb DDR memory.

And if I increase the FSB to 133 Mhz again, after the install, the Windows XP can't boot and I get the message again.

In the same system, I can run Windows 98SE without any messages with FSB at 133 Mhz and memory timings set to Normal.

I think memory timings are critical for the Windows XP.
I'm waiting for a new memory stick to solve this problem.

Cheers

Hmmm... Hmmm!
Look here... When i was upgrading Me to XP (FAT32) everything was OK! But i was fomatted C-drive, and then FRESH installed XP, from DOS!
And now, on every restart or shutdown (ONLY THEN!!!) ... there you go!

Help?

RAM : 1x128 , 1x256 (2 of 3 Banks).. SIEMENS Brand... PC133!
BIOS: Last updated 01/09/2001

I just don't know... is it in the MB, maybe??

As you say, this is a clean install...so NO other software has been installed, right?!

Some things to try:

Just because both RAM modules are SIEMENS brand, I'll bet their timings are different because of the different sizes. So pull the 128mb and try again. Many modern motherboards are very sensitive about RAM modules...especially if they are different.

Also...putting PC133 SDRAM on an Intel i845 chipset which is really designed for 200/266 DDR RAM could be the problem. I know Intel says its compatable...but if you check the Net there are complaints about this. In essence, the RAM is conflicting with the processor (it wants to run faster) which could lead to memory violations. Just something to think about ;)

That BIOS is getting rather old...a BIOS update may well fix this problem. The Intel i845 chipset is fairly new. Check for a BIOS update.

Hmm... but i dun know where to get new BIOS?
It's AWARD's BIOS...
If you could give me the link!

Award is a company that makes the code and the GUI for your mobo's BIOS...it's your manufacturer who optimizes the code for your paticular Mobo and its various options.

So question is who makes your Mobo? You said "Intel i845" but this is a chipset (made by Intel) not a mobo manufacturer. Many companies make Mobo's with this chipset Abit, Asus, Gigabyte, ..., ... and yes even Intel.

So who's the company makes your motherboard?

I think it is "Grace" or something like that!
In winXP i can't see the manufacturer, just Intel... but i am sure it isn't Intel as a manufacturer!
Hmm--- is the problem maybe, i have enabled the AUTO option for memory speed (also 100 & 133, as a options)?

Might if i try to put it to 133?

This is basically a memory "timing" problem. What you need to do is, on boot up enter the

set up menu, go into chipset features setup, there is something like SDRAM timing. If

these are set as "ENABLED" disable them. If there's an option
just underneath that's something to do with cycle length leave that as 3.

This whole problem, has all been to do with SDRAM, (there are two types: CL2 & CL3, CL

meaning cycle length). If they're running at different speeds your PC will crash. Even if

they're all PC133 or PC100.

Try this.
Good luck
