iomega dvd writer dead?

When I start up my computer, my writer can work only for a few minutes and disappear and
then hanged. After reset, the bios cannot detect the writer.
Then I unplug the power core and the ide cable for the writer and wait for some times. After i plug all back , the bios can detect it but getting in windows xp, same problem happen again.............
Can anyone tell me it is the writer hardware failure (could it be fix it) or other problems of my system?

fimeware update to A110
motherboard abit kt7a-raid
bios a9
everything works fine for half year.

sounds like lack of power,how many watts is ur psu?

my power supply is HEC-350LD, output power is 350 watts.

try another ide cable..i had a similar problem with a bad ide connector

and have a look at your system log; there should be IDE controller errors reported; updating your chipset/IDE controller drivers may help too;
