invalid video card

i am using the software that i got with the hp dvd.
PowerDVD/pinnacle video card software.

If I understood well when you try to play a dvd then the pop up comes out?
I don´t think that Power DVD should have any conflict with your pinnacle card because is a software based player, latest versions are capable of using hardware acceleration but only with Nvidia an ATI cards.

If you can please post textually the pop up message and the configuration of your PC (cpu, ram, internal cards and OS), so that we can figure out what´s going on with your rig.

What are you using to connect your vcr to the laptop?

invalid video card

i am using a "Pinnacle Linx USB Plus" divice. this statement is on the hook-up
page. 'connect your video source (e.g., camcorder, vcr) to the video- and-
audio inputs of pinnacle linx usb plus. also has s-video input. this divice hooks to computer usb. installed pinnacle software. cannot find any model number.
setup- vcr RCA out to video divice RCA in. video divice usb out to pc. pc to
hp dvd. nothing else in line. last step to record start vcr/dvd. this is where the invaled video divice. i do have the software set to NTSC. i understand
PAL is for UK.
again tks.

invalid video card

P.S. i would like to ask, what do other people use to transfer the vcr analog
to dvd digital ? i know i am not the only one burning from vcr.

Here is the trouble shooting guide from pinnacle:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/wwwsupport/InteractiveSupport/us/frameset.htm?
As the guide says you should check first if the device is properly installed, go to the device manager and see if the device shows well and has no conflicts, if so then try using VirtualDub instead of Studio 8, you can find it at virtualdub.org

I think that trying to edit a dvd with that laptop is not a good idea you´ll run out of space very fast because the Linx can´t encode to mpeg so first you´ll need to capture and then encode to the proper format to burn a dvd, otherwise if you´re just doing small clips then maybe it´s ok.

I never liked usb capture devices therefore never have owned one, in my opinion internal cards are more reliable, I´m using a Leadtek Geforce Ti4200 VIVO enabled to do all my transfer from analog to dvd but if you want to know what is using the rest of the people do a search in the forum with "capture video card" and the results will give a lot of threads on the subject.
