internet wont disconnect properly

hi

i seem to have trouble disconnectin my internet
iv had this for sumtime now when i right click on
my connectd icon in the tool bar an click the option
disconnect the icon will just freeze in the tool bar
i then haf to reboot but if i try to shut dwn windows
it wont it will just stay at system is shutin down screen
iv formated harddrive number of times an try different harddrives but still happens does anyone know why or share any light on the subject im on xp an with btbroadband

any help would be great

could be a modem problem, an ISP problem or a PPPoE driver ("broadband connection driver") problem too;
you could try this PPPoE driver: http://www.cfos.de/index2_e.htm
it's my personal favorite, but i don't know, if it's compatible with your ISP and modem type;

sounds like msblast related...did u apply the patch 4 msblast ?if not go 2 MS site & download it...sounds like ur svchost got crashed

As far as i know if Ur on cable (i am), U just cant disconnect like that, think that a leftover from dialup days.A cable connection is always on, tyhere are prolly ways to disconnect it, but it better just to leave it on

i had this problem before the msblaster virus came out an iv got all the updates so cant be that an now it seems my printer isnt bein pickt up when i restart my computer so i think it could be a usb port problem can u replace usb ports an do i need a sertan type of usb port for my motherboard

make sure you have the proper USB driver for your onboard ports installed (e.g. VIA's USB filter driver v1.10);

if you want to buy a new USB host, so i would prefer a USB 2.0 PCI card like this one: http://www.kmelektronik.de/root/shop4/auswahl.php?ArtNr=2898

managed to get me hands on pci usb 2.0 card 3 usb ports for £12
installed them an all my troubles have been resolved disconnects every time without a problem an noticed an inprovment in my connection
pages loading lot faster an smoother

maby the problem was insufficient VOLTAGE being supplied to you original ports !? and having more than one device at a time attached was causing the problems
