Intel P4 3.0Ghz v Dual AMD 2.0Ghz

I am thinking of upgrading my computer, and was wondering which would give me the better speed with Windows XP Pro. An Intel P4 3.0Ghz or Dual AMD 2.0Ghz. Any advice?

Dual is only needed when your applications are multi-thread capable. Otherwise their is minimal gain in performance in normal apps. Only benefit for normal apps is no system lag with multiple apps open. Providing that there is enough ram to keep the apps from dipping into virtual memory.

Thanks Nunyobiznes,
I think I will go for the P3 3ghz then. There will be 1gb DDR Ram on board. But it looks like the P4 will be better for me, as well as a bit cheaper.

So Nunyobiznes,
Do you think I should go for the duel processors. Only about €100 or $100 in the differance..
This is a great forum, lots of people ready to give there help, I have allready had a good few probs sorted.
Thanks you guys...................Irish Bear.

@Irish Bear duel processors (Hyperthreading) will get the main benifits from programs that support it. If your into video or audio editing there are app's out there that will surely benifit from the use of such a system. A few audio apps like Cubase 5 series upwards ,Nuendo love this type of set up.;)
Your everyday use of the PC word doc ues of internet some gameplay etc will not benifit from the full use of such a set up. but if it's cheaper for you to buy a duel processors set up go for it.

@I.B. - I say if you're going to do it, do it right the first time so you don't have to do it again for at least 6 months.:D
