Intel cuts notebook processor prices

Intel on January 12 announced new price cuts on several of its notebook-use processors, a move believed to be paving the way for its upcoming Centrino (code-named Banias) products in the second quarter.

Products on the latest discount list included the mobile Pentium 4, low voltage and ultra low voltage mobile Pentium III and mobile Celeron processors. The price cuts were mostly applied to the high-end models in each product line, with the price of the top-end 2.2GHz mobile P4 processor being cut 38%, more than that of any other processor.

As for desktop products, Intel’s next price cuts on the P4 line will be implemented on February 23, but so far the chip giant has no plans to adjust prices of desktop-use Celerons.
