Instantcopy and DeCSS protection

I just bought InstantCopy in order to backup my own DVD.
I was very disappointed to find out that de DVD's protected with
DECSS cannot be backed up.

This makes InstantCopy totally unusefull.
Copying just unprotected DVD's wont do any good these days as
the most DVD's are well protected against copy.

Does anybody know how to get rid of the DECSS protection ?

Thanks, NN.

Download, and use Dvd Decryptor.Use it in file mode, select all files. It will save the files on your hard drive. Then use Instant copy 7 to transcode, and write to dvd.

They are protecting themselves by not removing the protection with their software.

You can also use ISO mode, but more of a pain.;)

The real worth of this program is taking Dvd9 to fit on one dvdr.Dvd decryptor handles Dvd5 on it's own in iso mode.;)

In essence not many s/wares get rid of encoding (they dont want to antagonise the big boys) but decrypter (as Woody says) does the job!!

Go with Woodys method.
Dvd decryptor and filemode (select all)

Very easy and (almost) idiot proof! :D

I use DVD Decrypter to make an ISO, Daemon Tools to mount it as a drive, and then Instant Copy is perfectly happy.

yes it will be. but the extra step is not needed.
Instant copy justs needs an unprotected ifo file.
But we all have our preferred methods. ;)

Actually Woody, according to the Instant Copy tutorial at:

h**p://www.mrbass.org/instantcopy/

If you have win98 FAT32 you could rip in File mode (important: hit CRTL-A to select all files) but won't have AUDIO_TS folder to be 100% DVD compliant. Test out a DVD-R in your DVD player to see if it works without it.

so it seems we need to find a way to do the AUDIO_TS folder or else it won't play in some players?

Err. For starters fat32 is a no no for dvd burning.
A full dvdr VIDEO_TS folder is 4.38 so any iso would be missing some data.
U only need an AUDIO_TS folder when burning.
It is empty and has absolutely no part in the transcoding /compression process.
Instant copy does not add the AUDIO_TS folder and this is a mistake.
The folder will be missing whatever mode u use.
The only option would be to convert the pdi image to iso and isobust the video ts folder out and add the audio ts folder and reburn.........
This pdi stuff is just a trade off to allow fat32 users to use the software.
Any serious dvd guy uses ntfs or should do.
Unless he/she likes a lot of beer mats around the house.

Correct U must Use NTFS >> Fat 32 recognises the 4.38 file BUT it can only work on the 1st 4 GIG ergo as per Daveml coasters!!!

no AUDIO_TS will not play on standalone players???

So you want to tell me that if I did not add the AUDIO_TS folder my DVDs (the already 10 I backed up... :( ) will not play on standalones? all of them? or just the picky ones...?
I have a DVD-A300 by Pioneer. I can't use my backups yet b/c the films I back up are PAL and I have a Zone 1 NTSC... well... at least until I get the MOD CHIP in...

Regards

Using file mode(all files) has worked fine for me.It has worked on all standalones I've tried so far.The tutorial states it will work on most players

I always like to do things the easy way.I like to keep programs/steps,to a minimum. That is why I advised the way I did.Why install Daemon tools if I don't need it?

I have given up on DvdXcopy(and removed it) because it quite often spans to a second disc.Dvd Decryptor, and instant Copy7 are my personal choices at the moment.

I like to find the easiest software to use,and let it do the work. Why clutter my computer with extra programs?;)

Yes,agree use Ntfs for this stuff.:)

Same here. But what about the Q about AUDIO_TS?

I totally agree, with your choice (IC7) and with your approach: staying with one proggy that works well and uninstalling the rest of them. I also like IC7 b/c it is easy to use (again - in FILE mode - I thought it was you who gave me that advice a few days back) and gives you many options. I also like the fact that it does the burning as well and you don't have to switch programs - except for the amazing DVD Decrypter.

I did not get the answer regarding AUDIO_TS. Is it OK to let IC7 burn the DVD leaving out the AUDIO_TS folder? Will it play on most DVD standalone players? Or, should I go through the hassle of creating the pdi, converting to ISO and burning?

Thanks in advance

From what I can tell, most of the newer standalones don't require the audio folder, but... your mileage may vary!

most players dont need AUDIO_TS folder but some do.
So for 100% (ish) compatability make sure its there.
Saying that , I havent come across one thats rejects the dvd without one............Oh My God! ...Should not have said that!! :D
