Instantcopy 8, 'hidden' authoring feature, may work with other Apps

Instantcopy new superfast & easy authoring methods

:EDIT: this also works with version 7 update 2:

there is a simple way to crop the start/middle/end of any title you want, so you can get rid of the start/end credits of the movie for example

you can cut out partial or complete chapters/cells so it's like the reauthor feature in DVDShrink but you get to keep all the menus/extras also

all you do is change a few numbers in IFOEdit and anyone should be able to do it as no VOB modifying is needed, they remain untouched, just simple copy 'n' pasting figures does it

this method works with IC8 but it may work with other tools and it's all done previous to using the backup tool as you only modify a few numbers in the IFO to 'trick' the program into seeing only what you want it to see therefore the finished product does not include the bits you 'hide'

IC8 removes complete titles (PGC's) anyway (excellent feature) but this method removes parts of titles. You can either remove complete chapters or cells or even parts of chapters and cells

I would have posted more info quicker but I've been trying to trick DVDShrink also but have yet to solve it as it recognises it as unreferenced material. I have posted on the DVDShrink forum regarding this but this method may also work for other DVD backup tools such as IC7, DVD2One etc which I cannot test so I will be posting a guide soon so users can try it

I'm still playing at the minute though trying to understand what's going on and to find the simplest method that will work best as there are a few ways to do it and some have errors (though that can be overcome also)

for example, it takes me about a minute to crop the end of the movie but explaining how & what is going on to others would take me an hour so I've just gotta get my head round it first so I can make a simple guide

there are no guarantees it will work but it seems OK to me using PowerDVD but I'm not sure about fussy standalones (I don't have a working standalone at the minute so I'm off to borrow one) but maybe with some feedback from users it can be overcome as I know there will be questions and problems

and if it does work maybe some clever whizz can create a GUI or automate the process because all you are doing is rearranging the IFO :)

here is the guide in rough form HERE, looks long winded but like I said once you've done it a couple of times and know what to do it's a matter of minutes to do (if that!)

it does not work with DVDShrink as other figures also need modifying but maybe with more testing I may find a way

as for IC, I'm not sure if it works with IC7 but I do know it works with IC8 and after I processed it I got exactly 4.37Gb and it played back just fine in my borrowed standalone

the whole process takes an hour which was 15 mins to rip DVD, 5 mins to mod IFO's, 25 mins to process with IC8 (speed setting) and 15mins to burn with IC8

apart from cropping the movie you can also crop the extras by removing cells etc too with various methods but I'm still testing at the minute but so far results seem to be OK

:EDIT: the cell removal guide is HERE

any questions, suggestions, errors, results with other programs etc just post them here

cheers :)

all you do is delete playback of the cell, then goto the relevant VTS_PGC_1 in the VTS_PGCITI table and change the Cell_1: entry point sector to the number shown in Cell_1: start sector of the last VOBU making sure you are changing the same cell as you have just deleted playback for
when you are finished click SAVE,the VOB's are untouched :) and it's all done in a matter of seconds once you understand what to do
DVDShrink also recognises what I want but it's sees the 'hidden' stuff as unreferenced
it would be good if you had the option to disable it recognising the unreferenced stuff, as in this example the menu VOB has 115MB of unreferenced material in the original

Nice work Mackem!

Like you said it just needs someone to make a Gui for this really, as I told you earlier I'll give this a try over the weekend and see how I get on.

I'm getting lazy these days, can't remember the last time I used IFOedit even. :D

Hi MackemX!

very good work indeed!
will give it a shot aswell, will try both IC7 & IC8 and let you know how it worked

To the GUI thing, sorry but i guess i need to pass on this one, too
many things preventing me.... :(

But i think since there are other good coders around for IC stuff it wont take long until something surfaces up :)

Greetnx

IC8 needs very little IFOEditing to remove stuff and on most occasions all you do is mod the IFO values and don't even touch the VOB's :D

this is the complete reverse to IC7!, unless these methods also work with IC7 of course

doing more tests now but all OK so far, I just wish I could automate it even though it only takes minutes anyway

I'm gonna put a request out for some IFOEdit whizz to try and create a tool that can modify the IFO's values but in even simpler ways by using a friendly GUI

hopefully someone can do it, and if you think you can PM me please

this gets better by the minute

IC8 is brilliant for 1:1 fans who want to remove certain stuff because all you do is change a few figures and 'hide' what you want to lose

in my test I have a 21 chapter movie with the last chapter being the 0.15sec entry

chapter 20 is the end credits, so I've removed them but I also removed chapters 2-19 for test purposes (plus its quicker to process in IC8) along with changing the starting point of the movie

it took me 2 mins of the simplest editing that could be to do the whole process

IC8 then ignores this but then creates a valid DVD structure that plays back on PC OK, even the chapter selections work so I'm burning to DVD now to see if it works in my standalone

you could use this to get menu and movie only but you can also use this method to trim your extras too

If someone can create a tool to modify certain figures in the IFO easier it would be great and it would be one helluva an IC8 tool

anyone available? :hint hint MadGuy:

it worked :D

so now you can strip anything you want from a DVD with the greatest of ease

but even better news is that I've found a way to replace VOB's with one of your own choice and it's so simple to do!

instead of looking at the boring startups you can watch your own before you get to the menu

IC8 is looking to be one helluva tool for the 1:1 fans who want to trim and modify their projects

Pinnacle have created a monster :D

You sound like you've been enjoying yourself m8! :D

So the film you've just done only had the "one" chapter right? And it still worked OK? Sounds great, have you checked the finished DVDR in something like CD/DVD Diagnostic to make sure that everything is as it should be? You know what DVD players are like, it may playback fine on yours but might not be that complient with some others. If that checks out then this is fantastic news!

I'm a bit busy at the mo with other stuff but I'm hoping to have a little look at this later myself. :)

DOH, I mean't to say I removed chapters 2-18 and left chapters 1,19 and 21 and playback worked just fine

I understand the fussy players issue as I had a Sony, but soon got rid of that, that being one reason but this last test worked just fine on PC and 2 standalones

I have another standalone I've tried (well my mothers) and it's exactly the same as mine yet her's reads my DVDRW disk and mine doesn't no matter how goo the DVD is authored. Mine has great difficulty also reading the Princo disks yet hers doesn't so this just goes to show it's even individual players can be fussy but this example is probably mine just has a crap laser but I do know it's going back to the store

seeing as most people have forgiving players anyway this will still benefit the majority of IC users who wish to try it

I'm trying it on IC7 now but I doubt it will work

would you believe it, it works!

why didn't I come across this ages ago :(

I tried it with IC7 update 2 and it worked, dunno about version 3 as I didn't have it on PC and couldn't be bothered to download it

guides will be coming soon so users can try it and see if it works for them like it does for me :D

guide created?

This is exactly what I am looking for !!

Is there a step-by-step guide to make the IFOEdit modifications and transcode in InstantCopy 7 & 8?

Any differences in the procedure for InstantCopy 7 & 8?

Thanks.

I don't think so, but I haven't tried IC7 update 3, but I know it works with update 2

Sorry, I didn't follow the instructions listed above in the thread...

Could you outline the procedure to remove (hide or whatever you wish to call it) credits using IFOEdit.

Once I get that, I know what to do with InstantCopy.

Any help is greatly appreciated ...

Thanks.

sorry but I didnt get that far with that method to make a simple guide and at the moment I have no time to take it any further

I'm busy making a tool that makes stripping as simple as can be which is in my sig if you wanna see what it can do

cheers

Cool tool.

Will the tool also allow you to remove the credits from the main movie?

I am aware you can use DVD Shrink, but DVD Shrink does not do a good job of it. As DVD2One and InstantCopy will not transcode properly (inaccurate size) because DVD Shrink doesn't do it properly, as done by IFO Edit.

THanks for the replies!

Any update on this? I'm having a heck of a time getting my IFO edited backups to burn in IC 8. Keep getting List Index out of Bounds. I know it's something to do with IC thinking there are 3 titles and yet I don't have the third title. Shrink came up with no unreferenced material after I deleted the VTS_03.* files and got the VTS Sectors again but IC 8 keeps giving me the LIOOB error. Been posting and searching like crazy for a solution to this. Trying to get rid of extra features and additional "main movie" features like the 4:3 version, etc.

Please PM, email, or reply here if anyone can help with the IFO/IC 8 issue. Perhaps as was mentioned above I can't use Shrink to encode my IFO edited files?
