hello

im buying a pioneer 107 2moro. i just want to know if i need firmware for the dvd writer. if so can you specify which ones and f you could possibly provide a link to the i would be grateful. Just one other thing if i get the latest firmware will that be updated completeley and will the earlier firmwares be in that version. for example will 1.13 be in the 1.18.

if what i just said at the bottom you dont understand forget it.

thanks

Three approaches:

1. If it ain't broke, don't fix it - if the drive performs acceptably on the media you use, then you do not NEED to update firmware.

2. Apply the latest official update, since it will normally recognise more media codes, and burn them better, or at rated speed instead of reduced speed.
http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/computer/firmware.html - double check your drive - apparently the 107 and A07XL (retail) both identify as a 107d, but the firmware is NOT cross-compatible!!

1.18 supercedes all previous versions, and all changes are cumulative, so 1.18 does contain all features from 1.17, 1.16 etc.

3. The riskier route (and voided warranty), is to use a "hacked" firmware - the popular hack for this one is to remove region coding (drive is RPC1, so you still need a software solution to prevent software region code counting taking over), remove DVD video ripping speed restriction (aka riplock), and "nX4all" - allow all speeds on any media - it may only allow older/unknown media to be tried at 4x, not 8x.
The site I was going to look at, is down.

See this forum thread http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=40271 - The 107/A07 are the same - actually there seems to be some confusion as to the existence of a retail A07 - instead of the improved A07XL - the XL is the newer version, with some quietening tricks!

Unless you NEED the hacked capabilities, I'd stick to official firmware.
