illegal block size for command

My old LG 8X DVD writer, which I've given to a friend has started chucking up the following error when burning cd's: illegal block size for command.
This only happens when doing cd's, it burns dvd's OK. I've tried reinstalling Nero, and Roxioto no avail, but strangely Clone copied a CD just fine, which rules out (I think) laser damage.

Any help anyone?

please do a test burn with Nero and attach the Nero log file here, so we can look for problems; the Nero log file is called "NeroHistory.log" and is stored in the Nero program folder; when posting the file please delete out your Nero serial number;
