had a very stable system until a virus outbreak required a complete format and reinstall. Now have the following problem i have been unable to burn using DVD decrypter, NERO OR any other burning software, on my sony 500 external unit. The following happens, decrypter reads the empty disc info on iso read, select iso write and start burning, indicator light on machine blinks a few times then goes out. decrypter acts as if its burning, but nothing happens, left running for 10mins. Nero appears to burn but nothing happens.
I am on xp homeSP1 and all avaliable xp updates applied. Device shows as working ok in device manager, listing as sony i link drive ieee1394 sbp2 device. I have installed aspi 4.60, and then updated to previously installed 4.712. under settings. I/O tab in decrypter i have selected spti interface, only setting that detects drive. I even deleted the drivers for my 1394 card removed and reinstalled. I am able to rip ps2 and dvd in ios and file mode no problem. The drive has been tested working ok connected to the 1394 port on my laptop. Under device manager i have compared the system info on the 1394 connection including drivers listed and can see no difference.?. It does not effect other computer operations. This is driving me mad. I have missed something obvious i just hope some guru out there can help, or point me to another site that might.

[Hi PC Guy thanks for the reply. IMAP was on manual setting now set to disable. No change i am afraid. Just to clarify i am able to write to my internal burner no problem the error is specific to the 1394 device. Perhaps i am on the wrong path here but im confused why my usb modem shows in 2 places including the 1394 net adaptor?. could this be blocking normal use.?. any help or suggestions accepted. firewire listed as network card is no problem, there are drivers around for using it as NIC too;

i would recommend to uninstall the Adaptec ASPI the usual way, then using ForceASPI (v1.7)'s function "KillASPI", reboot and try it again with Nero; Nero do not need an Adaptec ASPI;

disk appears to burn, but remains blank

I had a very similar experience, althought it was with a CD, instead of a DVD. I tried chaning to a different drive, I tried changing to a different disk and each It is very annonying because the burn light comes on and the software indicates that everything is working, but in the end, the disk remained blank.

Finally I uninstalled Nero 6.0.0.{28?}, cleared out ALL win ASPI files, rebooted, and reinstalled nero 5.5; and was finally able to burn the CD.
