DMA enabling in Via Chipsets with this you can check and enable-disable DMA settings plus some Performance Enhancement
New VIA IDE mini port Driver 3.20b:
Are you having IDE troubles with your system? If so, it is recommended that you download and install the IDE miniport driver just made available on the Drivers Page, for increased IDE performance and stability. Before using this driver, make sure you have all Windows updates. See news post below about XP. If your system is stable, as always, our motto is "if it an't broke don't fix it". This driver is for Win9x/ME/2K/XP/NT.
* Please note: WinXP does not support ATA133 and therefore UDMA mode 6 will not be shown in Device Manager, even if the current timing mode is ATA133 .

VIA IDE Bus Master Miniport driver and IDE tool :
Other than NT your OS will not automatically install any VIA IDE Bus Master Drivers with the 4in1 drivers, then your system will use the Microsoft default drivers.
The VIA SCSI IDE miniport driver supports all VIA chipsets and Microsoft Windows including NT4.0/Win95/Win98/WinMe/Win2000/WinXP. It is recommended for systems with a VIA chipset and:
Systems where the user wants better IDE performance. VIA IDE SCSI miniport dirver implements performance enhancement to acheive higher benchmark scores.
IDE Zip drive, under all Microsoft operating systems, with a 686b southbridge chip
ATA100 hard drives with Windows 2000 prior to Service pack 1
ATA133 hard drives under Windows 2000 and Windows XP
Decrease Device Mode level by level (Explanation)
The VIA IDE Miniport Driver provides a smart error recovery if the device has an I/O fail condition. It will decrease the transmit mode of the device level from highest to lowest mode. The levels are set as UDMA 100, UDMA 66, UDMA 33, Multiword DMA and PIO modes. The Microsoft Default driver will down transmit the mode directly from the highest to lowest level. The VIA IDE miniport driver will maintain the storage device to perform at the highest level possible.
Performance Enhancement (Explanation)
The VIA IDE Miniport Driver uses a per-fetch algorithm to occupy other system memory and therefore increase hard disk performance.
don't know about benchmarks with this, but somehow, as I'm always testing new progs or tweacks, updates, etc even when I try to be cautious I loose track on all the changes, soo lately I was feeling my hardisks (7400 rpm) were reading and writing slower and after installing this thingy they went back to normal or faster (and I did have DMA enabled; Win2K SP4)
