IC7 Install woe

Uninstalled IC7 earlier today because I was getting a few glitches. After uninstall I also cleaned up the registry with jv16 Power Tools and then re-installed IC7 and all went fine. However, when I tried to install the 7.1 (Update 3) update I keep getting the error message "You do not have admin rights to install this". Running Win XP and of course I am Admin and do have the rights, checked all settings for rights etc and they all seem fine.

Any ideas?

Hi m8!

have you tried to unpack the exe e.g. with TotalCommander or PowerArchiver and directly install the .msi ?!

Yup m8, still no go. :(

At this rate I think only a clean install of XP is gonna do it and I only did that about a month previous too. lol

Check the properties/permissions of the folder you have extracted the files. May be cured if you simply move the files in another folder.
Check also if any of the extracted files has read-only properties.

Thx, but tried all that too.

Funily enough I tried update "1" and it installed fine, then update "2" the same but still no go on update "3"

I then think that maybe the file has become corrupt somehow so try on both a W2K & XP system and it installs fine.

next attempt! is the error message you get exactly You must have administrator rights to run this installation. Please login as an administrator and re-run this installation.
or does it differ from that ???

O.k. now we are one step further!

This error message is not from the wise installer, its from the msi engine.
Run the installer until you get that error message, and check your temp dir for the installer log! if its 0 bytes close the installer and check for the log again. If you are lucky the log says wich registry key caused the problem, backup the key, delete it, try again.
If that doesnt help, or you have trouble digging trough the log, post it here, or pm it to me if you dont want to publish your systems heart :D

When does the message appear ?!
Right at the beginning of the update process or somewhere on the way ?!

It can be that MSI tries to replace some system files that are protected by a third party software (eg. firewall ...) .

Indeed, this scenario is quite likely.
Have you tried to shut down your AV and firewall befor installing?
