I was wondering about the logged IPs...

I know its common in the forums to log the IPs. But after been a member for a lot of time here and knowing the kind of stuff that we share here, its a little scary that all our IPs are loged no? I mean: "Hey take this crack/serial/program/warezlink/etc." We are anonymous but the IPs are still there for some fuc%¤@%ng authority to check one day Hmmmm...
Off course I am not gonna stop posting, helping and recieving help in the best forum of the net for this. Just wondering how secure this information is stored?
Do you remember the case of that lame warez vendor that got confiscated all his hardware and they found a HUGE database of costumers in his harddrive? Jezzzzzzzz...

you need to be an admin or mod on the forum to be able to see users ip's

so dont worry

and its always better to use a proxy so your ip isnt loged

Yeah, that is the only porpuse in this forum ..
We log the IPs, so we are able to lock out trouble makers...
Not for any other reason :)

How can you use a proxy for hiding your ip? I understand about this anonymous surfing proxy services on the net, is this what you mean (but these ones are annoying, with pop-ups and you lost java and activex, the good ones make you to pay :() , or is it possible to do it yourself? (I don't see how, you always get the ip from the isp, whatever ot not you are using a proxy on your side)

I understand perfectly the needing to log IPs as all the mods and admins have said, and I am not worried that N.B. or the others admins see my IP, but I was just wondering if an autorithy (I HOPE THIS NEVER HAPPEN!!!) catch one admin and make him reveal the ips of all the posters. WOOOOW! That will be a lot of rolling heads... (Maybe too much spyes movies :) ?)

but for curiosity 's sake, how effective is that control measure tho? if people who have dynamic ip's and esp. those on dial ups AND if they use proxy, then they can log on to the forum at different times to create trouble and that'd not be easy to detect tho right?

well there are several points made. Yes it is more difficult to block someone who is on a dynamic IP addy or proxy, but we do have other things/methods that also help us. We don't want to post them (so as not to help troublemakers to elude getting banned).
Truth is we put a trojan in everyones browser, so we can do it no matter what (ROFL hahahah, just kidding).
No authority will be able to catch (or even if they do) force us to give up other members IP address. Besides only 1 person has control of those things & can guarantee you he/she will not be doing that. They can easily be erased from memory/files incase of an emergency (just like the whole site).

@thorz, there are some free proxies & crackable versions (I posted one somewhere here before =) ).

Shhhhh! Don't tell them our secret ways of spying on them and getting their secret files. You know...the porno, personal journals, emails, addresses...all ready to turn over to our Dark Underlord!

Mabey we are lucky and they weren't paying attention! :D
