I need to speed up smartripper...

Hi ppl, some days ago i've re-installed XP from scratch and so re-installed all the softz i need 4 ripping etc.
Before that smartripper was doing its job at 7/8x (very very fast), now after the new installation (and after some aspi problems i had)
smartripper rip at 1,3x (very very slow). So while before it was ripping 1 dvd in about 20 min. now it takes about 57 min.
Is here somebody that could help me on what eventually should i check 4 improve the speed of the proggy?
I have win xp, aspi 4.60 NT (i've used forceaspi).
Hope u can help me...
Cheers

Smart Ripper

I assume you have checked to make sure that both your DVD and hard drive have DMA turned on.... this will surely slow down the ripping process.

just yesterday i've installed via 4in1, and 4 enabling dma on XP is a real nightmare, it seems there are some bugs on xp about DMA.
The problem i think is that when u install XP it don't ask u anything it seems it has every driver or patch necessary for correct execution, instead this is not true.
I have an Highpoint controller for HD (ATA 100), do u think i should search 4 XP drivers or may i count XP had its own updated?
Thx

In the first 5-min of installing XP...the op sys askes
you for any special card or raid drivers....thats when I give my
highpoint drivers on a floppy to xp and all works fine..and fast...

As saiddad said (sound like an echo !) your problem is DMA. Have you check in Device Manager that your IDE Controllers have DMA IF AVAILABlE turned on?

Ok was the dma...

But enable it was not so easy (4 me), infact my DVD device supports DMA (Pioneer DVD 105SZ) but XP accesses it just in PIO MODE (even if the option "use DMA if detected" was enabled). Reading many posts around some boards i understood that u've got XP to re-detect the IDE controller or any other controller that gives u this kind of problem, u do this:
1) uninstalling the problematic ide controller from device manager (no reboot if XP asks u to)
2) SHUTDOWN the computer (not restart)
3) if u have the problematic device connected via a slave ide connector, unplug it
4) restart the sistem
5) reconnect (if u have to) the ide device eventually removed in step 3, and u should be ok.

In this way i've got it and now my DVD goes ok.
Cheers

Daveml, I say in my Tuts to turn DMA off, this is for ultimate reliablity of ripping DVD to the HD. However, if you experiance no problems what so ever (DVD hardware, M/B, OS, controller, drivers, etc all can effect it) then leave it on.

I'm personally experiencing no probs what so ever on my Toshiba DVD rom & A7V333 m/b with DMA turned on.
