I love Roxio!
Nope sir, I'm not drunk!
I have been toying the last ten days or so with Roxio WinOnCD6 DVD Edition. I have tried it in the past and rejected it as it was horribly buggy (hardly a surprise...). The main problem was that it was rejecting 90% of the inserted CD media as being able to hold 1.5 seconds (!!!) worth of data...
I applied the latest service pack, and tried it again... actually I striked gold!
The old bug is still there, although now it happened with just two media brands out of the 25+ tried. But the real fun is with DVD media! (Sony DRU-500a, fiirmware 2.0c). WinOnCD burns EVERY inserted media at 2X, no matter if the disk is labelled as 1X, 2X or 4X!
I have tried up to now more than 15 different types of media, and all of them burn fine at 2X (no corrupt files, just one coaster out of 40+ burns). Since 4X media are still quite expensive here and I can currently find some 1X stuff for 1.60 euros apiece, I cound't find something better! Of course the reason of this phenomenon is just another Roxio software bug... all the info the program gets from the burner is the media type- it cannot read the disk manufacturer or the possible recording speeds. I guess that this does not apply for all burners, but it does apply for my Sony. Why? --- I don't know... or care! In short:
I love Roxio for making the best bugs in the universe!
