I love Roxio! :p

I love Roxio!

Nope sir, I'm not drunk!
I have been toying the last ten days or so with Roxio WinOnCD6 DVD Edition. I have tried it in the past and rejected it as it was horribly buggy (hardly a surprise...). The main problem was that it was rejecting 90% of the inserted CD media as being able to hold 1.5 seconds (!!!) worth of data...
I applied the latest service pack, and tried it again... actually I striked gold!
The old bug is still there, although now it happened with just two media brands out of the 25+ tried. But the real fun is with DVD media! (Sony DRU-500a, fiirmware 2.0c). WinOnCD burns EVERY inserted media at 2X, no matter if the disk is labelled as 1X, 2X or 4X!
I have tried up to now more than 15 different types of media, and all of them burn fine at 2X (no corrupt files, just one coaster out of 40+ burns). Since 4X media are still quite expensive here and I can currently find some 1X stuff for 1.60 euros apiece, I cound't find something better! Of course the reason of this phenomenon is just another Roxio software bug... all the info the program gets from the burner is the media type- it cannot read the disk manufacturer or the possible recording speeds. I guess that this does not apply for all burners, but it does apply for my Sony. Why? --- I don't know... or care! In short:
I love Roxio for making the best bugs in the universe! :p :D :p

Heh it was probs like that that made me give up on EasyCD:)

Does that mean Roxio wins over Nero now, we know U hate Nero:p

BaNzI:D

I don't hate Nero! It's just Nero that hates me because I am handsome, clever and unassuming! :p
@ Master: It may be confirmed by another DRU-500a owner (don't know if the firmware version plays a role). So far I have tried That's Write, Sony, Princo, Intenso and Verbatim 1X media, Princo and Intenso 2X media and Ritek 4X ones... ALL of them burn at 2X, and what's more the maximum recording speed of the Sony according to BugOnCD is 3X (!!!). I know it's hard to believe, but here's a shot:

Hahaha... Roxio programs are great fun! :D
I just installed the latest unidriver (1.18) as the Roxio site claimed problems with the previous driver and the Sony...
-Guess what, it still burns all media at 2X, and the max. DVD speed is still 3X! Moreover, it reports the drive can't burn at SAO mode, which is almost correct: I have barely made more than 15 multisessions with the drive and RecordNowDX! :p (and yes, multisession does not work indeed with WinOnCD/DVD 6). And as you can see from the picture above, multisession WAS supported with the previous "bad" unidriver!
-The Lite-On 2410b is reported having minimum speed 6X instead of the correct 8X. Starting to burn at 6X the program cuts the lead-in and then instead of adjusting the speed to the correct 8X, it spits out a coaster! Oh, and SAO mode is not supported here, either!
-Ripping from the Ultraplex has a few pops, while ripping from the Sony reaches a massive 30X DAE, but the .wav if full of jitter...
-The GUI response coudn't be more sluggish, I think.
All the above would be minor things in favor of the gratis 2X burning on 1X media, but I must confess that the (also gratis) BSODS I get now every 2-3 hours are slightly annoying!
:p :p :p
