... i started with a 50mb avi file. and ended up with a 1.62gb mpg with no sound! i used TMPGEnc 2.521, is this how big it should be? also when i followed the tutorial by chicken man i tried to follow it exactly but its was like he was using a completely different program than me(like things were in a different place and some thing i couldnt find at all!

The size of your MPG will depend on the bitrate you set, not the size of your source AVI, however it is possible that an MPG will be undersized if the bitrate is set too high and the codec achives bitrate saturation.

Your audio problems are most likely due to the AVI using vbr mp3 for audio.

Are you converting to MPEG1(VCD) or MPEG2(SVCD) so which Tutorial are you talking about exactly ?

TMPGEnc does not handle VBR MP3 audio ifound in most AVI's. Again read the Tute were it explains to extract the Audio out as a WAV file using NanDUB.

ok ill try the mp3 etc tute but whats going on about the 1.62gb mpeg? what should i change the bitrate to??

oh btw im doing mpeg-1(vcd)

For VCD you can't change the bitrate it is always 1150 for video and 224 for audio. This give approx 10MB/min which would make your file around 165mins long which does seem a bit odd for a 50MB AVI. Quality can't be that great.

ok, ive used gspot to check my file. can i tell u all about it and can someone tell the best method 2 use?

ok i have

codec: xvid
bitrate: 818kb/s
fps:23.97
stream type and a/v interleave
type: OpenDML.AVI
I/L:1 vid frame (42 ms), p=480 Split: No
audio:0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3(so i guess its mp3 so ill have to do the wav thing)
aspect ratio:16:9 (i kinda want it 2 be 4:3 but if its gonna casue probs 2 change it...)
as u can c from the fps its an ntsc film.(which i kinda want it to be PAL, again if harder...)

when i did this for the first time i used TMPGEnc and loaded a Video-CD NTSC Film template and tried to change the source aspect ratio to 4:3 PAL 625....

i am yet to try the VirtualDub thing and shall tonight.
i do not mind whether i convert it to SVCD or VCD whichever is easiest.

thank for all the help, this is the most useful forum i have ever found!

Go with SVCD, much better quality than VCD so check out http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=15298 and to convert it to PAL, just tick the NTSC to PAL box in the main page of DVD2SVCD.
ok, i just tried the SVCD tutorial and it kinda didnt not work. i think only 79% of it worked and the was no bbMpeg file. also the video file was exactly 20minutes long and had a cimena craft encoder watermark on it. i did not try to convert it to ntsc as that did not especially matter. i think there maybe a porblem with the actual avi file itself as it always ssems to stuff up and the same place (20:00). i also tried it with TMPGEnc(not usind dvd2vcd) and change the audio to .wav which worked untill the same bit where the vide froze for about 1 minute and then jumped ahead but the audio was complelety out of whack. i will atach my log but i dont think it will matter.

The Watermak is due to CCE being a Demo version. Unless encoding finishes properly and fully, there will be no bbMpeg file as it needs the output of the encoding to make it.

I'd suggest your AVI is nuked, try downloading again would be an easier solution.
