I don't use a tv box to make vcds or avi files. Here is how i make vcds. I take a dvd. Use smartripper and rip out the vob files I want. Encode them to divx using xmpeg. Takes about 2hrs or so for good quality. The quality I'm talking about is 640x480,1,500kbps,128kbps 48khz mp3 audio. This makes a 1-2gb or smaller depending on length of video or quality you use. After i'm done making divx I encode the divx to mpg using tmpgenc. You can select the quality you want to encode to mpg. After I make my mpg I use Nero to make vcds.
