Http Referer Error Cant Download

Hi All
I have nortons internet security and I have it disabled and yet I still get http referer error. What am I missing here??? I have tried opera browser and download accellerator. Is there a setting in ie or opera that I can set. I always had to turn off nortons and it always worked but now nothing works and its so blasted frustrating. Any ideas HELP!!!!! PLEASE........

Hi wiseowl:)

Try the privacy options in Nortons Internet Security

What version are U running 2002,2003?

What OS 2 are U running?

But it should be in the privacy options somewhere

U could try Kerio 2.1.15 firewall, it a good prog & free 2.If U are on Broadband or even dialup, it not wise 2 go on without a firewall

Hope It Helps, but lets us know how U get on, if it fails some 1 else might have an answer

Cheers:)

PS. I would download Ad Aware or Spybot spyware progs if U not got them, just 2 check nothin bad has got through

Re HTTP REFERER ERROR

Hi Thanks for the reply. I am running Xp Pro nortons internet security 2003 and add aware the latest version. I had the firewall disabled and also the privacy setting changed as well. It still wont download. After about 10 more goes at it away it went and I got the file. Now I am trying to get another and now its doing the same thing. I keep at it maybe its overloaded and I just getting that message. Its a real pain but hey.
Thanks Heaps to all...

You need to do the following: -
1. open up norton internet security
2. click on the 'options' button & select 'internet security'
3. select 'advanced options'
4. locate you site it if is on the list, if not then 'add site' etc.
5. highlight the site, then select the 'privacy' tab
6. amend the 'referer' setting

I had the same problem a long while back with cdcovers.cc, and fixed it by updating this setting (see example below).

Hope that this helps you out :)

NIS... Opera... DAP... too many bad habbits for your own good!
Get sure that your download manager does not report itself as IE 4/5+, else the referrer you get from Opera should be bad.
PS: Not an Opera, or NIS or DAP expert- have stopped using all of them ages ago.

I have used Opera in the past a lot- both under Win32 and Linux.
I see no point going on using this stuff- Mozilla/Firebird is faster, equally customizable (actually more), less buggy and free.
Under my Win2000 I run (as second browser- I can't get rid of it, as I've done under 9X...) IE 5.5 SP1, cause IE6 is total crap. SP2 breaks several third party IE addons, and the known cure (replacing a couple of dll's with older ones) creates other issues. IE6 is a worry for those that still try to find the fictitious virtues of XP... :p

Last Mozilla "stable" is 1.3.1. Last beta is 1.4b, and it's way more stable than any current IE 6 SP-something or Opera release.
Last Firebird release is 0.6, based on Mozilla 1.4b. It's Mozilla browser, missing the extras (mail client, IRC client, html editor), and the skins+ addons are slightly different. Firebird 0.6 is currently the fastest browser available- and with no issues at all with Sun Java 1.4.1_2+, unlike Opera. Moreover, Firebird (and the analogous mail client, Thunderbird) are 100% green software: you just get the pack, unzip it in a folder you like and you are ready to use them! They are also multi-platform- install in *nix/Tux, FreeBSD, MACOSX, Solaris...
