HP8000i

first off apologise if this is in the wrong place. Cant get a Hp 8000i (has been flashed to enable the use of 80min media) to use cd-rw media. it used to work fine when first bought. have tried original software that came with the unit(Direct CD). have just tried the latest Incd version. but each time, it recognises the medium, starts for a few seconds then locks up the system, is it:

1. the CD-RW disc's which all appear to be 10-12 speed ?

2. the software i am using ?

3 KNACKERED ?

Look that you don't have two versions of DirectCD installed, they conflict with each other, specially if you installed the one that comes with ECDC together with the one that comes with WinOnCD. Same problem ifyou installed InCD and didn't uninstall Directcd or vice verse.

Check also you have the ASPI layer installed, sometimes it is removed when installing the software.

The hacked version for 80 min CD works fine with CD-R, but sometimes i got problems with CD-RW, retried and always worked fine.

The speed is not the problem, that burner doesn't go more than 2x with CD-RW,so that' not the problem, maybe well they beeing 80 min CD.

Does it burn CD-R alright or do you have the same problem with them?

Thanx

Thanx for the reply. the writer went into a clean machine. as far as i know there was no conflicting software. i uninstalled, shut down then rebooted. its windows 98. i have burnt CD-R no problem with both original software and nero 55914. going to try latest Direct CD. also going to try Formatting them first on my machine. Again thanx at least i now know that it is unlikely that its knackered or anything to do with the flash.

I'm 99% sure that it is a problem with the DirectCD installation. Before formating try cleaning the registery by removing everything that's connected with DirectCD in the registery (Beware, only do this if you have some experience with the registery. Backup, andthen try it out.)

Hope it works out.
