HP dvd200j, Verbatim dvd+r media and......

...my neighbors ducking the "coasters" flying out of my windows.

Hi all. Looking for some help/advice/tips. I've been using my Hp 200i for mostly data archival purposes (firmware upgrade made it a "j"; forget revision, but it's the lateset one available from HP). Recently taken to experimenting with dvd-video backups, but am having one hell of a time.

First failed attempts (using latest Nero demo & clonedvd) were no writes at all, or effed-up disks. I initially had a Hitachi dvd-rom as master with 200j as slave (as recommended by HP, or maybe it was Hitachi). I've disconnected the dvd-rom drive, placing the 200j (DMA enabled) alone as master on secondary ide channel. So now I can actually get a "successfully" completed burn. However, no playback/recognization by the pc, much less any standalone player ("no disk"). If I check disk info in Nero, I see "total capacity" of 1mb; 1 session w/ one track 2kb in length.

Now, wtf am I overlooking/doing wrong? Is it the media I'm using (Verbatim)? Other? BTW, using Verbatim -R in my a105 (on another pc) is no problem, aside from compatability issues with some stand alone players. TIA.

Without knowing more about the software you use, it's difficult.
I'm guessing that you use Nero for everything, encoding, authoring, burning.
What are your source files format(s)? What is your process/method of encoding, authoring and burning?

thaks for the response. The source is a rip (video_ts folder: vobs, ifo, etc) on HD. Preferred application is clonedvd, but Nero is ng either. Also,
