hp dvd-writer dvd100i question

Hey as i already said, i'm new in this dvd stuff, mine is a hp dvd writer dvd100i which is supposed to be dvd-rw,the question is can i burn dvd-r on my dvd-rw??? i've been told i can't but i just wanted to ask the people who knows best( that's you guys!!!!) and if i can do it ...can anyone tell me how to ?? or what i have to do to make it work????

genesiss, I don't have a happy answer for you. Your Writer is capable of writing DVD's, but not the same format, your writer writes DVD+RW - NOT DVD-R!

You're not the first person to make this assumption, search even this forum and you'll see people that have ordered the wrong media --> DVD-R for their DVD+RW writer..

Sorry, the media you need to record stuff on isn't cheap, between 3x and 5x more expensive than DVD-R blank media..

>>X<<

Now - the strange thing is HP (and Philips) promised in the past, even in ads, that firmware might be issued that would allow DVD-R capabilities, but this seems to have been quietly dropped.. some US consumers using this turnaround to get their money back, straight from HP....

thanx but here i have another question

what if.... i download firmware for the dvd200 which is dvd-r and dvd-rw and make an update to my dvd???? would it be safe???
