How to unlock xbox hard drive? HELP!!!!!!!

Hi!

The hard drive in my Xbox (moded with Xecutor 2.2 pro) became broken. Fortunately, my friend gave me his locked hard drive. When I put this hard drive in my xbox it displays error 6... I guess it is because the hard drive is locked.

Anybody, please, tell me how do I unlock this hard drive?

Thank you.

Easiest way would be for you to give it back to your friend (presumably his Xbox is modded), get him to unlock the HDD from his board, then take it back, install into yours (and if you want to lock it to your board).

I think there are other ways to unlock involving your PC and some unlocking software, more difficult though. Check out http://www.xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php > Hardware Addons/Modifications section :)

Unfortunately my friend doesn't have a mod chip. Is there any way I can unlock this hd from my modded xbox ? (or maybe pc)

Thanks for the link, but I couldn't find any helpful tutorials on xbox-scene.

What about the tutorial "How To Recover A Locked Hard Drive Without Password (From a Dead Motherboard)" ???
:)

It is a nice tutorial if you have a motherboard... My friend broke his motherboard (after mod chip installation) and threw it away. That's how I got the hard drive...

Not sure if it was a successful, or unsuccessful response to a similar case....

The relevant part, near the end of that ramble is:
If this is infact an xbox harddrive, depending on what the person before you did with it... it might be possible to unlock it. I have 2 suggestions. First you'll need

http://dwl.xbox-scene.net/~xbox/xbox-scene/tools/harddrive/atapwd.zip

put that on a dos boot disk... boot from it, and run the prog... once you do you should be presented with a list of hdd's on the system... select the locked drive from the list.

now you will be presented with some options...
(time for a side note: if this drive infact has come from an xbox, then there should be no master code set, the xbox only uses the user password option...)
so try setting a master password and then try unlocking the hd with it... (there might be an option for disabling lock, use if available since the drive will relock upon rebooting)

option number 2 (consider yourself lucky if this does) if the person you received the drive from has locked/unlocked it on an xbox with a utility called "ConfigMagic" the master password would be set to "TEAMASSEMBLY" <--CaSe SeNsItIvE

Hope this helps... only other way is with a copy of the eeprom of the xbox this drive came out of...
So it appears there MAY be a way to force an unlock, using the MASTER password, if either known or not set - or you could be digging an even deeper hole, and end up with it even more locked than it is already.

Even if you manage to disable lock, it may not be possible to relock with another password, without knowing the previous.

NB. I don't have a clue about Xboxes, but this looked hopeful.

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried this- it didn't help. I also tried to boot windows with 2 hard drives (good hard drive- master, locked hd- slave). Windows didn't recognize it. As well as Fdisk. "Format c:" didn't help either...

I also tried different low level format utilities (Partition magic, hard disk utility, kill disk, etc. ) to format this drive. They do recognize it, but they also say that format will complete in 80-100 hours. I've used to low level format hard drives on my very old pc (it had this option in the bios and it took ~1 hour to complete), but, since I don't have it anymore, I can't format from the bios.

Could you suggest any good low level format utility?
