How to make Nero burn Divx -> VCD

Can Nero make Video CD's out of divx files, or do I need to convert into mpg first? If the latter is the the case, what kind of prog. can do this? Everytime I try with divx avi files I get an error message "unknown format" or something similar.

No Nero cant do this.
Even if it could the results would be rubbish as its encoding engine is very poor.
Read the divx to vcd tutorial by Chickenman for great results.
It takes time but the results are worth it.
Just done 3 today!

fully agree with daveml.
Nero is a poor encoder. As daveml mentioned, just follow the tutorials layed out by ChickenMan & all will be fine & dandy (even better than that).
If you run into problems there, post again.

If I already have an mpeg file and it is designed for VCD or SVCD, will Nero do a good job with these standard encoded mpeg files?

I know it does a crappy job if it has to re-encode the mpeg, but what if you just use it to make VCD or SVCD discs from mpeg files originally deigned for such?

Please advise.

Thanks.

yes Nero is good for burning your VCDs Markbot.
It is in the tutorial ('cause Nero is probably the easiest to do so).
It is ok for SVCDs also, but I believe CM has made a new tutorial in which the final SVCD product is a bin file that requires you to use anything that burns bin files (like CDRwin).
