How to install XP-ServicePack1 on XP with "wrong" Serial

There are some "backlisted" Serials from Microsoft. If you have such ja serial. (e.g. : xxxxx-640-xxxxxxx-xxxxx) you can´t install Windows XP Service Pack 1

Here is how it works :

1. Regedit -> HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Current Version\SPAEvents -> right click on "obbetimers" and change the last digit!

2. Run from StartMenu -> %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

(2a. If nothing happens if you do Step 7, you have to download XPAntiSpy and choose default value for regwizc.dll and licdll.dll)

3. Choose "Activate by phone"

4. Choose "Change Produkt Key"

5. Enter "7FMM3-W4FMP-4WRXX-BKDRT-7HG48"

6. Close window and reboot

7. Run from StartMenu -> %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

(7a. If nothing happens if you do Step 7, you have to download XPAntiSpy and choose default value for regwizc.dll and licdll.dll)

8. It should say : "Windows is already aktivated"

9. Installl "Windows XP - Service Pack 1" !

10. Choose after install -> Reboot now

11. Don´t Panik, if the first reboot doesn´t work! Simply "Hard-Reset" and boot normaly again !

12. Login and XP-Service Pack 1 installed without "new" Activation !

13. M$-Guys -> I´ve kicked you again !

;-)

evrything i've seen so far has had sumthin to do with contacting windows update... is anyone actually dumb enuf to use windows update with a pirated version of windows??? if the antispy is correctly configured and u know what parts of windows to block access to the net for, how can ur version key be recorded by them??

This makes no sense

Any OS component might contact MS and report all kinda personal information? It's a privacy infringement, and it doesn't matter if the EULA says so. If that's true, what would we able to do to stop that?

Well

Well, let's skip all the ideological debate and see how can we overcome this annoying problem :)

Do you think there will be any technique to avoid that SP1 from sending information to MS?

One more thing.

Could anyone paste the part in the SP1 EULA which says that the OS has the right to transmit information to MS without user's knowledge?

maybe...

Don't you think that the firewall software makers, lavasoft, the xp-antispy author for example will come up with some solution?

After all it's the purpose of a firewall, block any incoming/outgoing traffic that gets in/out without user's knowledge.

hmmm, i´ve tryed thsi instruction in first posting, but waht means "right click on "obbetimers" and change the last digit!" ?

How can i change the last diggit, i click at CHANCE an see follow Text...

0000 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ

What have i to do?

While being a rather tedious process, it is possible to do all you can to block communications with Microsoft while not having to deny all communications otherwise. I have done so with my gateway firewall which protects my entire network. It means going through the long process of using nslookup to resolve all of Microsoft's domains to IP Addresses and blocking access to them. It is not the most practical solution as you might not be aware of some of the domains and a better solution where this is not a priority is necessary before I will install SP1, but it is a start. From reading pokopiko's posts, I can tell he is a smart guy and is probably well aware of this solution. His assessment that blocking would be almost like pulling the plug is mostly true because doing what I said above still leaves a small window for some communication to slip through and the only way to be certain that it didn't, would be to block all and the entire application which obviously isn't an option.

starting to sound more and more like uninstalling SP1 before the 9th is a better and better idea....i havent even used any of the new options included with this pack enuf to say its any better than the original XP install

even tho i am not using the "devils own XP" or key ( i am actually still using RC2 which i legitimately downloaded from M$ as part of a testing program) i do believe i will uninstall SP1 as RC2 was limited to a 60 activation which had been patched before RC1 was ever released by a little thing we called reset3. my key i believe will still be flagged. thanks to all here for the heads up
