how to disable the DMA in winxp pro?

hi, can anyone tell me how to disable the DMA in winxp pro? I need to flash the new firmware for my cdrw-rom. my friend told me
"Press win+Break (or Pause) key.
Select Hardware--> Device Manager->IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller
U'll see something like Primary IDE and Secondary IDE.
if u r not sure your CDRW is connected to which IDE just change all to PIO in Advancend settings on Primary/secondary IDE channel properties there.
After that click on that .exe file to start flashing."

problem is i dont see any advanced settings tab/buttom to press :(

Thanks :)

dma

go to your IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller in device manager select either primary or secondary right click on them...choose properties then another menu will appear..choose advanced then you can change to pio hope this helps chris

Which bus mastering drivers to install will depend on the motherborad chipset you have (with the mobo)

You should discover this information in your motherboard manual.
Once you find out, check out the web site for your mobo manufacturer. The manual should also also give a website for mobo updates.

I don't really know need what to install bus mastering drivers.. my motherboard is ABIT-TH7II h**p://www.abit.com.tw/abitweb/webjsp/english/products.jsp there's nothing much to d/l from there exect i d/led and up the lastest BIOS version: 2.0.1024 and d/l from Intel site...
Performance Software - Intel® Application Accelerator ver.2.0
Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility, v 3.20.1008
still same thing :( any other stuffs i need to get my bus mastering drivers to work? :(

ABIT-TH7II

But you want to disable DMA right ?
(well the info might not be of much use then)

Not familiar with your motherboard - but i think its uses Intel 850i Chipset.

In this case - you can use the intel bus mastering drivers. you can find a suitable version for your chipset (you should double check it in the manual on the chipset info).

Warning though, there isnt any guarantee that the drivers will work with all your cdrw/cdrom/dvd drives though. if your using WinXP - I suggest you make a restoration point before installing ANY bus mastering drivers - just to be safe.

I just found out that the Intel® Application Accelerator took over the control of the bus mastering drivers and noticed ver.2.0 also install a program in your startup so u can easily go in and change any setting u want...anyone interested can d/l from here..
